My name is Andrew Deussing and I’m a third year marketing major at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. I’m very happy with who I’am, where I’m at, and where I’m going with my life. When I first came to Temple, I switched around majors a few times and after a year declared a business major. At first, I was not extremely into the whole idea of a business major, it seemed intense and I couldnt wrap my finger around sitting in a cubicle my whole life listening to the man. However, as my studies progressed I’ve learned to love the major and have come to the realization that business is everywhere and everything and does not always entail sitting in a cubicle doing paperwork.
Through an SPO organization in the business school called Students for Responsible Business, I learned a lot about sustainability and became very involved in community service projects in the area. The projects aim are to turn depressed vacant lots in Philly into gardens and crop yielding farms for the community. I have been working on an urban farm for a whole year and after seeing the transition of this beat up lot in a beautiful community center got really into social entrepreneurship.
