Counselor & Sports Instructor, Summer of 2014

Camp Tel Yehudah is Young Judaea’s national teen leadership camp, attracting Jewish teenagers across the country.

As an in-bunk counselor, I supervised a bunk of 16 boys, aged 15-16, created and implemented informal education programs with topics based in leadership, community involvement, and Judaism. I solved social conflicts within the bunk, created a welcoming bunk atmosphere, and built team dynamic, resulting in a positive experience for the campers.

As a sports instructor, I worked with a team of four to run a creative sports program that engaged campers of various age groups, encouraging leadership, team building, and physical activity.

The camp offers a unique opportunity for campers to embark on a week-long trip with their age group. During the first session of camp, I traveled with my campers to Washington DC to lobby Congress on prevalent social issues, voted on by the campers. The campers I trained and oversaw focused on lobbying for increased efforts to prevent human trafficking across America. During the second session of camp, I staffed a trip that focused on social action in New York City, specifically hard hit areas in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Administrative Assistant, Summer of 2013

I provided administrative support in a high-stress, busy office by acting as a liaison between the camp and over 500 clientele (parents). I answered multi-line phones, handled inter-office mail, kept camper’s records filed and up to date, and coordinated daily operations.

As the outgoing Vice President of Young Judaea, I was responsible for representing the movement and its values to the camp’s community. I assisted in running leadership training programs for the oldest campers, managed the camp canteen’s sales, inventory, and strategy, and helped run a large philanthropic event, where campers had the opportunity to caucus and vote on social issues they felt passionately about.

I traveled with the oldest age group to Washington DC to lobby congress in favor of increased efforts towards natural disaster relief and recovery as a part of the camp’s Special Interest Week program.
