Information about the organization and my Co-op:
D&T is a firm that provides audit & assurance, consulting, risk and financial advisory, risk management, tax, and related services to select clients. It’s annual revenue was close to $40 Billion in 2017 and employs almost 300,00 people.
I began working as an Assurance Technology Risk Co-op in the Philadelphia office. Here is the summary of tasks and activities that I was involved with while working there:
- Analyzed control processes relative to governance mandates, firm policies, and industry standards and produced SSAE 16 reporting for clients.
- Managed General Information Technology Controls audits in accordance with AICPA and PCAOB standards in conjunction with financial audit teams.
- Performed General Information Technology Controls testing on Linux, Unix, SQL, Oracle, Active Directory, and various business applications.
- Inspected management’s workpapers to validate that controls activities for General Information Technology Controls areas have been appropriately tested by the clients.
- Conducted market research for ten potential clients in Greater Philadelphia area by utilizing Deloitte KX tools and presented three best prospective companies to senior leadership for Deloitte Philadelphia’s client portfolio growth
This co-op position went hand in hand with what I was learning and was going to learn about after the co-op. The Business Analyst’s workstyle and work challenges were present all along the way. I’ve had to analyze IT systems of my client as well as Deloitte. I wish that I took the Business Analytics classes before this co-op because it would have helped a lot with learning and interacting with the new work environment.
