Assignments

Just a final reminder that all assignments are due on Wednesday, December 7.  You must have your career counseling with Mart Doyle done by this date as well as have your final resume critiqued by CSPD.  Your career research assingment is also due on Wednesday.

Mock Interview Recap

This wednesday the interviewers will return to give you general feedback on the mock interviews.  This is a perfect time for you to ask them questions about the interview process or just general questions about them, their companies, etc.

Managing Expectations

Today CSPD will be in class to discuss Managing Expectations.  Today is also the last day to turn in your mock interview reflection for partial credit.  Please check the gradebook to make sure your assignments are up to date.  Also check the syllabus for the due dates for the remaining assignments.

Alum Panel 11/9

Interview Basics

Today we will be talking about interview basics and following this handout.  BEI – WAS IT SOMETHING I SAID – revised January 2011

You will also use this handout to do the assignment that is due next week via email.  Choose a BEHAVIORAL question and answer it using the STAR format that we will discuss in class today.

MOCK INTERVIEWS 11/2

Mock interviews are Wednesday, November 2.  Please be on time for your interview and dress is business professional.  If you show up late or in anything but business professional dress a letter grade will be deducted.  If you do not show up at all you will not receive credit for the assignment.  The interviews are being held in the CSPD office, Alter 134.  You are only required to show up for your assigned time.  Class will not be held.

30 Second spot critique

Career Planning panel

On Wednesday we will have three guests that will talk BRIEFLY about their background and IT in general.  Based on feedback from past classes, I will be leaving most of the time open for you to ask them questions about the industry, their work experience, IT in general etc.  Please come prepared with questions to ask.  Their bios are below.

30 Second Spot session

On Wednesday CSPD will be joining us to talk about the 30 second spot and reporting your job/internship offers.  We will be using this handout 30 second spot for MIS majors

Job description evaluation session

Tomorrow we will have two guests in class with us to discuss job descriptions and what you should look for in them.  Our first guest is the Chair of the MIS department, Munir Mandviwalla.  Our second guest is Dan Schaefer, Director for Data Center Operations at SAP America.  Below is Dan’s bio.  Please also remember to email or bring your resume draft (or final resume if already CSPD’d) to class tomorrow.  Tomorrow is also the last day to complete your Foxnet profile for partial credit.

 

Dan Schaefer is a Temple University graduate with over twenty two years experience as an IT professional.  Since graduating in 1989 with a Computer Information Science degree from the School of Business and Management (now the Fox School of Business and Management), Dan has worked in a number of IT positions in a variety of industries including: Insurance, Travel & Leisure, Pharmaceuticals, Airline Operations, Manufacturing and the Technology Sector.  He is currently the Director for Data Center Operations at SAP America in Newtown Square, PA. The past twelve years of his career have been focused on SAP ERP Implementations and SAP Operational Management.  Dan has an MBA in Management from LaSalle University, where he is also an Adjunct Faculty member for the MBA program.  Dan is a member of the CIS Board of Advisors at Temple University and recently joined Temple University as an Adjunct Faculty member for the CIS program.
