The Union League of Philadelphia – Beverage Department Internship

For the second consecutive time this year, the Union League of Philadelphia has been rated the #1 City Country Club in the Country by Platinum Clubs of America. Established in 1862, the Union League remains a historical beacon for the city of Philadelphia.

While I was working as the Beverage Department Intern at the Union League of Philadelphia, I had the privilege to work side by side with the Wine Director and the Beverage Manager with the goal to rejuvenate their receiving, purchasing and organizational processes.

As the second largest wine and spirits purchaser in Philadelphia, creating a more efficient receiving and organizational process was no small task. I was able to create an effective storage system that has proven to lower beverage purchasing costs each month since its implementation and a reduction in time allocated to find a bottle during dining service. I also worked directly with the Wine Director to create a new purchasing system, as well as a more time efficient inventory receiving system that incorporated the use of a new version of inventory management software.

Whitford

Whitford Country Club – Waves Café Manager

Established in 1956, Whitford Country Club offers a family-friendly atmosphere with a wide variety of activities and amenities such as a championship golf course, three dining options, and a swimming facility.

During my time as a restaurant manager with Whitford Country Club, I assisted in overseeing the renovation and reopening of the Waves Café, where I consulted on the layout of the front of house work space. I was tasked with coordinating weekly quality control for both front and back of house, scheduling and inventory organization.

Building a strong relationship with the membership through exceptional customer service was a main prerogative for myself and fellow managers. I assisted during the hiring process and supervised over 50 employees, providing training workshops before each season of the Café’s opening.
