FoxMIS is number 1 worldwide for research

The research output of the Fox School’s Management Information Systems (MIS) department was ranked number 1 worldwide in 2010! This is based on an analysis of publications in Management Information Systems Quarterly (MISQ) and Information Systems Research (ISR) in a database published by the Association of Information Systems and edited by Professor Venkatesh at University of Arkansas. MISQ and ISR are the two top journals in the field of information systems. The Fox School’s MIS department was ahead of University of Maryland (ranked 2nd) and Emory University and University of British Columbia (both ranked 3rd).

Temple stays number 1 in 2010 if the analysis is expanded to include Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS) – a journal that is often considered to be a top journal in many institutions and it remains number 1 when the analysis is further expanded to include Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) and Information Systems Journal (ISJ). The last two journals are major journals in Europe and including them in the analysis further affirms the worldwide nature of the ranking.

The above success is indicative of the excellence of FoxMIS faculty who were also ranked at the top of their field in the same database. Professor Youngjin Yoo is ranked number 1, Paul Pavlou is 2nd, Angelika Dimoka is 7th, David Schuff is 15th and Susan Mudambi 28th in 2010 if the analysis includes the two top journals of MISQ and ISR.  Yoo is number 2, Pavlou is 5th, Dimoka 10th, Schuff 24th, and Sunil Wattal and Munir Mandviwalla 34th, and Mudambi 47th, if the analysis is expanded to include JMIS.

In a cumulative analysis of the last 3 or 5 years and focusing on ISR and MISQ, FoxMIS is ranked 3rd and 5th respectively worldwide. Overall, the analysis and ranking demonstrate the excellence of the Fox School’s MIS department and its emergence as a worldwide leader in the information systems field.
