Temple University is now designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) thanks to many years of effort from MIS’s own Professor David Lanter.
This designation opens the door to improving Cybersecurity education and research on campus, as well as new employment and scholarship opportunities for Temple’s students.
Professor Lanter graduated from Fox’s Information Technology Auditing and Cyber Security (ITACs) MS program in December 2015. The following summer, Lanter joined the MIS ITACs faculty and began building out the new Cybersecurity concentration for the ITACs program, with the long-range vision of achieving the CAE-CD designation.
The CAE-CD approval process required prolonged, sustained effort. (For example, one CAE-CD requirement is a minimum of three-years of graduates to be considered a validated program of study to even apply!) The approval process required cross-discipline and cross-functional support from across the university.
Achieving the CAE-CD award is an exciting new beginning. There is a critical shortage of professionals with cybersecurity skills according to the NSA and, thanks to Professor David Lanter and his team, Temple is in a unique position to help defend America’s cyberspace.
