UX Researcher + Designer
Onyx Valley offers recruiting and consulting services to tech companies and organizations with user experience (UX) needs that are interested in attracting and retaining diverse talent. I specifically work in Onyx Valley studios where I do agency work with clients.
Since this is an internship I get the opportunity to do several things like project management, UX research, data analysis, and design. Alongside the other interns, our job is to take lead when working with clients, pinpoint their problems and come up with solutions that are created using the design sprint process.
An example of a project I worked on was working with Spruce Street Harbor Park. In 3 months, I was able to do field research, analyze the information found and with the information, come up with solutions with my team. That process included affinity mapping, the agile methodology, and prototyping.
When I graduate, I plan on becoming a product designer and this internship has given me insight into what these jobs entail. In MIS 2101, we briefly talked about the waterfall and agile methodologies. Being able to actually complete projects with these methodologies at my internship made me understand the process even better. Another point that I was able to make a connection to was when in MIS 2101 we learned about AI. I’ve never had much experience with AI prior to my internship but then I had the opportunity to design a voice UI skill for Alexa and speak with an Alexa skill developer.
