Course Work

MIS 08555 – Data Science:

Data Science is a class based on the study of data and the visualization of data.  We focused on leveraging Excel to manipulate data coupled with studying Tableau which included the display and visualization of data. I plan on utilizing the knowledge of Tableau I and the visualization of data as needed in the future.

MIS 2501 – Enterprise IT Architecture

Enterprise IT Architecture focused on the physical and digital architecture of organizations. Additionally, the course forced us to “think on our feet” as we were administered flash paper exams. During these, we were required to write a 1 page proposal explaining the technology introduced on the exam and financial implications of theoretically investing in said technology. Being able to learn quickly is an ever-growing skill required in any profession, and having the experience of doing this in an academic setting is something I can rely on in future situations.

MIS 2502 – Data Analytics

Data Analytics focused on the extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) of data sets. Throughout the course we used Excel, MySQL, and R coupled with R Studio to perform the process of ETL with the goal of creating meaningful, useful data. Gaining technical experience by using these programs in class will provide me with a base of knowledge which can be applied in the future.

MIS 3501 – Data Centric Application Development

Data Centric Application Development is based on the development of web-based applications by using HTML, CSS, and PHP.  We were introduced to the languages which allowed me expand my knowledge of coding languages.  Additionally, being able to grasp and understand web application communication will be useful when applied to similar projects.

MIS 3504 – Digital Design and Innovation

During Digital Design and Innovation, I took the role of a business analyst on a team consisting of classmates (other BA’s) and students taking the following course (MIS 3535).  As BA’s, we were tasked with creating a solution for a local polling company, BeHeardPhilly, who was looking to improve their registration process. During the project, we learned about the importance of project based documents and learned, first hand, the timeline and process of a project from start to finish. This project experience will be valuable when working on future projects.

MIS 3535 – Lead Global Digital Projects

While taking Lead Global Digital Projects, I took the role of a project manager.  Along with another PM from my class, I managed a group of engineering student’s senior project. Their project was to build and configure a low-powered mesh network using IoT (Internet of Things) devices. While the exposure to this niche technology is very valuable, the experience of managing a real project from start to finish is invaluable and  will be something I can utilize in the future.

MIS 4596 – Information Systems Integration

Information System Integration, the final MIS course, is based on a combination of all of the prior MIS courses. In this class, we were tasked with creating a theoretical digital product including a business model explaining the key value proposition.  We were faced the with responsibility of assigning roles and completing the project. Additionally, we were partnered with an industry mentor, specifically Satbir Bedi the CTO of Scholastic. This exposure to a leader of industry was an excellent opportunity.
