Hobbies, Interests and Volunteer Work
Hobbies and Interests
I am a loyal Temple owl fan and love to attend the basketball and football games. I also take zumba classes at Temple’s student recreation center every week. Outside of school, I love going to the beach in the summertime with my family and reading books on the beach.
Alternative Spring Break Trip
Since my sophomore year of college, I have participated in an alternative spring break trip with the Temple University Newman Center. We have volunteered in both Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ.
Philadelphia, PA
For sophomore and junior year, we decided to stay local and do service work within our own Philadelphia community. It was eye opening to see how much poverty and need is right off of Temple’s campus. We volunteered in Kensington by serving food to the homeless, helped out at a local elementary school, visited the elderly and did neighborhood cleaning.
Camden, NJ
This year, as a senior, we traveled across the Ben Franklin Bridge into Camden, NJ. We did a week of service with an organization called De Sales Service Works, a Catholic service organization. For a week we lived in a retreat house in North Camden serving meals to the poor, volunteering at a homeless shelter, cleaning up a park and helping out with a after school program. Despite all the despair and poverty, it is great to see how many organizations make it their mission to service in less fortunate areas.
