Compliance Intern at QVC

QVC (an acronym for “Quality, Value, Convenience”) is an American cable, satellite and broadcast television network, and multinational corporation specializing in televised home shopping that is owned by Liberty Interactive. Founded in 1986 by Joseph Segel in West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States, QVC broadcasts to more than 350 million households in seven countries as QVC US, QVC UK, QVC Germany, QVC Japan, QVC Italy, QVC/CNR (China) and QVC France.

There were many experiences I gained from my 15-week internship at QVC. I learned the core importance of SOX compliance, and how much audit impacts a business. I worked closely with the IT compliance team in managing reports on 15 different systems that are critical to the business. These reports made sure that the business was compliant with audit guidelines, and made sure that all business changes were recorded. I also ran reports to double check the Q4 business reports, and compared Q1 reports to make sure all necessary changes were properly handled.

I also worked with Access Management in maintaining and providing access to new employees and taking away access from terminated employees. This was critical to the business because we needed to make sure that people were removed from certain access on servers, databases, and systems. It was critical to business to make sure that they were removing access for these users, but at the same time it was important to grant access to new and current employees. I worked closely with QVC’s ResQ system which handled all incoming requests for access, and this was important to the business because it increased productivity if access was granted in a timely manner.
