Vice President, CDM Smith, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lanter served CDM Smith’s clients as management consultant and enterprise information systems solution architect. He led the firm’s Information Management Systems technical discipline and led multi-function enterprise software, data development and quality assurance teams. Along with his role as project director, he is often found mentoring requirements analysts, business process modelers, user experience and graphical user interface designers, software engineers, geospatial data developers, quality assurance testers, deployment specialists, user educators, and information security specialists he works with.

Research Director, Rand McNally, Skokie, Illinois. Dr. Lanter led the data research, sourcing, and quality assurance departments. provided a design for the enterprise GIS data warehouse and dynamic transportation product development systems, and contributed to the production of commercial trucking and consumer road travel and street map internet, electronic and print geographic information products. He led consolidation reengineering of the company’s product development systems, and briefly served as the company’s Chief Cartographer.

Software Design Engineer, Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington. Dr. Lanter led the geo-modeling quality assurance program for Microsoft’s Geography Products. He led the design and development of Microsoft’s GIS quality assurance systems and directed quality assurance of internet and electronic geography products, including MapPoint, Encarta Virtual Globe, Streets and Trips, Expedia, Sidewalk, AutoRouteExpress Europe and AutoRoute Express Great Britain.

President, Geographic Designs Inc., Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Lanter designed and led the development of custom and commercial off the shelf spatial decision support and geospatial spatial metadata products, and provided GIS management consulting services to private and public sector agencies including: The City of Santa Barbara, Southern California Edison, Verizon, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Park Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Sandia and Brookhaven National Laboratories, U.S. Geological Survey, and Federal Geographic Data Committee, and many international mapping agencies.

Systems Analyst, Grumman Data Systems, Woodbury, New York. Dr. Lanter developed functional specifications and led the prototype development for U.S. Air Force real-time, near real-time, and non real-time Cartographic Applications for Tactical and Strategic Systems.

Software Engineer, Navigation Sciences Inc., Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Lanter provided data systems development, network and UNIX systems administration and support for developers of real-time nautical navigational systems.

Adjunct Professor, Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Taught graduate and undergraduate classes in Introduction and Advanced Geographic Information Systems classes. Served as an advisor on student PhD dissertation committees.

Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, University of California, Santa Barbara, California. Taught Introduction to Cartography, Digital Cartographic Design and Production, Geographic Information Systems, and Cartographic Programming. Served as an advisor on student MA thesis and PhD dissertation committees and research fellow of the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis.

Lecturer, Department of Geography, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. Taught Introduction to Geographic Information Systems in the GIS certification program.
