MIS 2402 – Data-Centric Application Development – Spring 2019

In Data-Centric Application Development, we are learning several different programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create web-based applications that can connect to a database. We are also learning how to use libraries, like jQuery, and API’s to further the capabilities of these programming languages. Learning these skills are the building blocks for working in technology because we need to understand the processes for how technology is developed.

MIS 3506 – Digital Solutions Studio – Spring 2019

In Digital Solutions Studio, we are learning how to be “Business Analysts” to translate business needs into technology-enabled solutions while working with a real client in a studio setting. We essentially learn the project management lifecycle. We meet with the client at certain points during the semester to interview them about their needs and the project requirements. Business Analysts and consultants are popular careers in technology, so building a foundation of these skills is highly important.

MIS 2502 – Data Analytics – Fall 2018

In Data Analytics, we learned how to create and use relational databases to most accurately answer business questions by writing SQL queries in MySQL. We then analyzed that data using RStudio and basic statistics. Using the results from our statistical analyses, we learned how to effectively present the data through visualization to generate business intelligence. As someone who wants to pursue a career in working with databases and data visualization, learning these skills are essential to succeeding in a related technology position.

MIS 3406 – Enterprise IT Architecture – Fall 2018

In Enterprise IT Architecture, we learned about the interworkings of enterprise technology and how companies use technology to manage their information. We used Microsoft Azure as a hands-on approach to creating virtual machines and networks to learn how the various components of IT architecture communicate with each other. For a position such as a Network Administrator, being knowledgeable in the intricacies of an IT infrastructure is imperative.
