Connection between Courses and Job Experience!
I am excited that I was able to experience some of the MIS course load because they are directly tied to the work I am working on over the summer of 2017. In my internship with Kia’s Cakes, I was tasked with updating social media accounts and developing web page functionality and design.
My Application Integration and Evaluation course allowed me to practice the learned of application integration to develop data driven software applications. This practice made it easier to design websites at Kia’s Cakes and integrate existing applications to produce new capabilities. The course helped me identify the technical issues of the existing application structure to make my applications effective.
My Digital Solutions Studio course taught me to translate business needs into technology enabled solutions. In my internship, I needed to find ways to improve the existing website of a real client. I learned to interact with clients as they learn to collect requirements, model processes and data and design solutions to the client’s problems. After learning to scope a project and compile the associated set of business rules, students learn to utilize a number of design frameworks and structured techniques for creating innovative solutions. This directly applies to my internship because all of the learned objectives in a course are applied to creating powerful applications, as well as improving the structure.
My Data-Centric Application Development course used web-based applications with high-level programming languages in order to create powerful web programs. These techniques also include methods of debugging to identify errors and make improvements on a daily basis in my internship. I’m also now able to interpret system requirement specifications and explain technical components including the use of systems development life cycles in creating software applications.
Overall, these courses directly improved my ability to create innovative designs and give insight about how to improve how the company’s web pages work. This experience gives me a strong view of what it is like to have web developing as a career. You can view my courses here
