IT Support Specialist

During the Summer of 2018, I worked as an IT Support Specialist at Trend Eye Care, a Philadelphia-based eye care center. During my 13 week employment, my day to day primary focuses was to provide technical assistance to the 35+employees at two Trend Eye Care offices. I provided assistance revolving around both computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, and operating systems.

One of the major projects I was tasked with in this role was the installation and networking of a 32 channel IP surveillance camera system for both offices. My main responsibility in this project was to set up a network connection for each individual camera to its NVR (network video recorder) via configuring HTTP port number, DNS server address, and forwarding specifications. This allowed the owners and managers to view the offices remotely from their phones and computers. Another major project I was responsible for was the implementation of a new EMR/EHR software, called ODlink, to all work desktops. ODlink was highly needed to maintain patient records, exams, appointments, and inventory. My role was to make sure the desktops and iPads were fully compatible with the software for at least the next 5 years. As a result, I successfully recommended the purchase of 25 new equipments and installed the operating systems and other necessary softwares onto them.

I learned a lot from this 13 week experience that relates to the MIS major. The biggest takeaway I left with was an increase interest in MIS careers in the healthcare field. The healthcare field seems to always have a demand for personnels interested in health informatics, which involves managing patient data in medical records and more. I am also more comfortable and better at communicating technical information to non-technological managers in the workforce.
