Class Projects

In-Class Projects

Below are some examples of projects that I have worked on in the classroom with other students. Each of them are projects that pertain to an MIS course that I have taken. These three projects are all unique in their own ways and have provided valuable interpersonal and technical skills to help better shape me as an individual.

The Pennsylvania Ballet

The Pennsylvania Ballet is an organization here in Philadelphia that is looking to rejuvenate its image to bring in more customers. I worked on a team with three other people and examined the organization’s website. Afterwards, we interviewed three of the company’s stakeholders to get as much of an understanding of what they were looking to gain from us. We worked over the next several weeks on a prototype for a refreshed website that will engage current and prospective customers while bringing the experience into the 21st century. The prototype included a new layout of the organization’s website and included a new admin portal. This portal allowed staff members of the organization who monitored the website to easily update and make changes as necessary. The project was a semester-long lesson learning experience because it entailed me to work with a group and gather as much information from key resources to present in a final presentation which demonstrated the prototype.

BeHeardPhilly

BeHeardPhilly! is a small research center that is owned by Temple University. The organization conducts surveys in Philadelphia county and publishes the information publicly. The company is looking for customers to conduct research for. While working in a group of six, my team and I interviewed three stakeholders from BeHeardPhilly! and began to brainstorm the kinds of tools that would be beneficial for a customer who was looking to conduct surveys. Afterwards, we began working on a prototype that would highlight the key functions that would be of interest to someone who would conduct research with BeHeardPhilly. Our prototype was tailored to two users: the client who would pay a subscription to BeHeardPhilly to use research tools to gather information and the administrator at BeHeardPhilly to oversee all clients. The client would log into the portal and be taken to a dashboard where they will see a summary of how many surveys are active, how many responses there are, and how much longer they can remain open. The administrator will see a similar dashboard but can override decisions that the customer made if there is an issue. This project has also benefited me greatly because it was more demanding than the Pennsylvania Ballet project. Each of us on the team had to specialize in a task and work collectively to be successful on the project.

WaBu Watch

WaBu Wearables is the name of a company founded by two Temple students who are entrepreneurs. Their idea is centered around a watch that enables basketball enthusiasts to keep track of points and statistics. It is ideal for people who are looking to play pickup basketball or coaches of a basketball team. This is a project I worked on with two other people over the course of a semester. Our duties were to manage the two entrepreneurs and help keep them on track with whatever goals they had. We held weekly status meetings and created milestones to have met by the next meeting. The project was related to a real-life scenario of the duties of a project manager. We had to work on filling out various paperwork, establishing and attending meetings, and keep track of time, money, and the scope. The project was interesting because our entrepreneurs were constantly making changes to their idea which would result in us having to tailor to these adjustments. We were able to agree on a defined goal for the end of the semester and set milestones on how to reach that goal. I found the project interesting because it is very similar to my current co-op at Philadelphia Gas Works. We had to keep track of resources and ensure that the project was staying on schedule in order for it to be a success.
