- ASTM International is an organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for various industries. It is a not-for-profit organization. The location is at West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. It is a small sized company with roughly 220 employees. I was employed in the IT Department.
- My overall job function is quality assurance, testing a new management system and developed test scenarios/use cases.
- The project that I worked on was a new application that the company wanted to invest in. The company wanted to have a place to store all contracts in one place and easy to access. They invested in Microsoft SharePoint which is a cloud-based software that makes collaboration easier and people can access documentation easily.
- This internship was greatly related to my major and one that I was truly thankful for. For instance, in Data Architecture Course (MIS2501), I had to research and write flash research papers about various software as a service (Saas) applications and one of them happened to be Microsoft SharePoint. Though I didn’t get to use SharePoint, by researching and writing a paper about it helped me prepared for the project. I was already aware of what it is, what it capable of and the key features. Also, I learned about Microsoft Azure and active directory. By understanding how active directory works and how to set up different account users for different group helped me understand this project as the system use active directory to decide which group get to access different libraries and features of the system. In addition, in Digital Design and Innovation Studio or MIS 3506, I learned how to gather business requirements, developed test scenario/use cases which enabled me to use that knowledge to apply to this internship. In fact, I even used the use case/test scenarios template from MIS 3506 to document the management system for references and training purpose.
