Laura Schmidt is currently a graduate consultant and adjunct faculty instructor for Dr. Samuel D. Hodge. In this role, Laura assists Dr. Hodge in developing and facilitating classes in the department of legal studies for 300-600 students that focus on American law and Business law. Laura develops and grades homework assignments and writing assignments (such as memorandums and legal briefs) that help students understand and apply legal reasoning. She tries to make these assignments engaging by basing the issue on current topics in the media or fun factual scenarios. Last semester, Laura created an assignment that asked the students to create a legal brief advocating for the plaintiff or defendant after a member of the Weasley family was injured at Hogwarts university during a Quidditch game gone awry. Laura is always happy to help students during class and office hours and enjoys showing students the intersection between law and life.
