Student Worker-Infrastructure, Operations, & Security

  1. Infrastructure, Operations, and Security (IOS) department of IT Services at Temple University.
  2. Assist in the server build process, server decommissioning, upgrading servers’ OS, communication to users about drive clean-up, remoting into the virtual servers to perform drive clean-up, and attending other day-to-day meetings related to these processes and the systems involved.
  3. *I am remaining in this role for the Fall of 2018 so the projects are still ongoing* a.) Windows Server 2008 Decommission Project to retire all servers that are running on Windows 2008 or 2008 R2. Thus far we have collected anticipated dates to complete the steps in this process from a list of users. This is a long process that is still in progress. b.) GLPI Cleanup Project to verify and correct misinformation in the University’s server inventory. This is still in progress but is much closer to completion as there is less communication required and fewer steps involved. c.) System Discrepancies Monitoring Project to determine trends in the discrepancies of records between various systems and subsequently fixing them. This is a large project that requires the comparison of various .csv and .txt files containing weekly and daily automated discrepancy reports. It has been my goal to find a way to get the number of these discrepancies as close to zero as possible.
  4. I have been trained the basics of how to use the various systems that monitor Temple University servers. With this knowledge I have learned how to complete the tasks formerly mentioned which has broadened my technical knowledge immensely. This is related to MIS as these systems allow for reporting and conclusions to be drawn which ultimately increase the value of the business, or in this case, the institution. I find that it is closely related to the course MIS 3406-IT Enterprise Architecture in regards to how technologies can translate information into business value.
