What was the most important takeaway (from your […]

    • For me, the important takeaway is how to organize data so that it will be clear to other people seeing it. I never knew about big data and the techniques needed to organize the data before I walked into this class. If I were to tell a future MIS0855 what this course was about, I would say that it is a class where you analyze data and learn about the techniques and strategies for one to understand it easier. I would tell them that it was a helpful course to learn about because businesses rely on data to make decisions these days.

    • My most important takeaway from the course was that large sets of data are only capable of being useful in the business decision making process when they are organized in a manner that specifically highlights the relevance of the data. Without this knowledge one might fall under the impression that any, and all statistics are of importance to the decisions made in a business setting. To future MIS0855 scholars I would say that the course is oriented toward finding ways in which we can make use of otherwise overwhelming sets of information that are becoming more prevalent in the workplace as technology makes them more available.

    • The most important takeaway from this class is the fact that data is every where and the amount of different things you can do with that data. It was interesting all of the data sets that are out there that personally I would have never even thought to check out. The graphics that we used on a daily basis were also very interesting because every graphic would show you something different that you could do to explain the data. If i had to explain to another student what this class was about I’d say it was mainly about how data is applied in everyday life and also how to apply data into everyday life.

    • Biggest takeaway in this course was actually how to analyze data. I learned how to better used Excel and learned a new software Tableau. I would say this course is learning and finding different ways to use data. How to analyze the data and how to put the data into a better looking graphs and data you can better understand.

    • The most important takeaway I had from this course would pertain to tableau. Prior to this course I had never heard of this software but I now feel pretty comfortable in using it on my own to analyze data sets. If I had to explain this course to a future student I would tell them that it was very hands on in relation to analyzing data. I would tell them that it was beneficial because you are able to really learn how to use new software rather than listen to a lecture and not see first hand how things work.. Beyond tableau, I learned functions in excel that I had never learned before such as sentiment analysis.

    • The most important takeaway from this course was the concept of how data can be used to draw useful conclusions. We learned the importance of data in modern society, and many of the applications big data is currently being utilized for. Also the activities we did in excel and tableau helped improve my skills in both software applications. I particularly liked learning Vlookups and Pivot tables, because I know I will be using them frequently this summer for my internships.

I particularly liked learning Vlookups and Pivot tables, because I know I will be using them frequently this summer for my internships.

    • The major take away from this course was really learning the details of data from so many different perspectives. As well as actually applying it to actual data in everyday life. Using excel and tableau were very informative as well.

    • The most takeaway from this class is that I learn how to present the data or analyzed results by visualizing them. I can create a dashboard or visualize the data by using tableau. It would be easy for user to read the data. I also learn the importance of big data to our daily lives.

    • I think that what I find most important about the course is that it takes us under the metaphorical hood of the rather vast and vague concept of data and explains to us how it works and how it is manipulated. We’re walking collections of data, and this class shows that we can use that to improve ourselves, what we do, or how our technologies work. Data Science teaches us that we can step outside ourselves and examine the so-called “big picture,” which I feel is vital to understand in our information age. Our lessons on analytics and visualizations made it possible to effectively summarize, display, and communicate these findings. This class taught me how to communicate broad swaths of information, such that I can pull some data on user interactions and understand it with just a few steps. Speaking Data Science as a whole, I am very glad to have taken it.

    • The most important take away for me was the use of Tableau. I found learning how to make effective data visualization to be extremely important. I would probably use this tool in my internship and professional career when I need to present data to my managers. It will be useful to make a simple, easy to understand visualization for mangers and others higher up, who all have extremely busy schedules.

    • The most important takeaway from the course was learning how to organize data and present it in a way that is useful. I had a better idea of what excel can do, and tableau was really interesting in terms of editing and analyzing the data. But most importantly I learned the difference between big data and useful data.

    • From my perspective, the most important takeaway from this course is that data is ever evolving and changing as are the ways we manage and analyze it. And, if I had to explain to a future MIS2502 scholar what this course was about, I would say it’s about understanding business data and how it is stored, managed, and analyzed. And, then, it is taking this analyzed data and turning it into something useful.

And, then, it is taking this analyzed data and turning it into something useful.

    • The most important takeaway, from my perspective, from this course would be that data analytics is present in our everyday lives more than we realize. From things like purchasing a candy bar at the local grocery store (transactional data) to finding what items correlate to the other in a store (association mining). Once I realized that the information I was learning was present in my day to day events, I began to see different perspectives and think more critically about possible solutions to problems. I believe that MIS2502 was a key class in my college career because it allowed me to take the concepts I was learning inside the classroom, and apply them to my everyday life, which has made me a more vigilant student and consumer. To the future MIS2502 scholars, I believe that they will find the relevance in this class and that data analytics is all around them.

    • I agree with Alex that this course’s key takeaway is that data is omnipresent in our lives, inside of and outside of business. I really enjoyed learning a new way to think about data and ways to ascertain meaning from it. If I explained this course to a future MIS2502 scholar, I would say that you learn how data is collected and stored; once we learn these concepts, we learn different ways to use that data to answer different questions.

    • For me the most important takeaway is that information can be used and viewed in more than one way. Just because you use data to explain one answer or solution does not mean it can not be used to answer another question or problem. If i explained this course i would say you learn how data is collected and stored through several programs. You also gain an understanding of how those databases operate.

    • In my opinion, I would say the most i learned is how can storing and analyzing a set of data can be greatly beneficial to any business if it wants to advance, be more efficient, and gain a competitive advantage in the market place. Data gathering, storing, and analyzing is always changing. Companies need to be aware of the changing trends and keep up with them. If I had to explain the course to a future MIS 2502 student, I would say to him/her to learn the basics and keep them in mind as the course progresses, Because it all relates to each other. Helpful tip: don’t wait the last minute to do your MIS assignments!

    • I have many takeaways from the course, but one of the main one was been exposed to the different software (SAS, MySQL) that we learned in class and the ability to practice with the software and utilize the software in order to complete important assignments that helped me improve my skills and knowledge. Another key takeaway was understanding the importance of data and how there are different ways to analyze and evaluate the data. From the class, I learned that there is not correct way to interpret data because every organization uses their own method to solve a problem. If I had to explain to a future MIS 2502 scholar what this course was about, I will definitely say that this course offers you a better understanding on the different forms of data as well as the different ways data can be evaluated and utilized by organizations in order to benefit the business.

    • The most important takeaway from this course is the numerous ways that data can be used. I learned that collecting data is easy, but how one puts it to use is the most important. From previous retail jobs I held and from taking this course, I was able to make connections into the real world on how data gets used every data. I learned that data is one of the most important things in a business. I personally would say data is the key foundation of a successful business because there is so much one person can do with this knowledge. I would explain this course to a future student by saying it teaches you the basics of what data is, how it is collected, stored, processed, and used. We use several programs such as MySQL and SAS which allow us to play around with this data.

    • The most important takeaway from this course is the way data and MIS systems are used in daily activities for business. I am more informed on how to interpret and obtain data for customers, businesses, and etc. This class has taught me that data is vital to succeed as a business and without it makes doing business much more difficult. If I were to explain this class to a future scholar I would say it teaches you the foundation on how to use and comprehend data. Sequel was probably the most difficult part of the class so I would give tips on how to use MySQL.

    • The most important takeaway from this course is the different ways of representing data using the same information. The information can be stores multiple ways, but the class teach you to represent it most effective way. SAS and MySQL are the two most important software for this class that allows you to store, change, replicate, and find all kind of information from the data source. These two software prepare you for a further use of this kind of software. the class is about learning how database works in real world and what are some ways of improving the same database, so you can gather more information in a organized way.

    • The biggest takeaway from this course is finally understanding the information architecture of an organization. Before this course, I thought data analytics was black and white: you look at data and infer from it. There is also data entry and data extraction steps before actually analyzing the data. Of course, we used various programs (SQL and SAS) and methods to look at data, but understanding data (transaction vs. analytical) before anything is essential to getting started. To future MIS2502 scholars, data analytics is not black and white. This course will give you many processes in handling data but the entire course outline is from the information architecture of an organization. Understand it and it will help out tremendously!

    • The most important takeaway from this course is how important is data, and how to keep the data accurate with no redundancy. The accuracy of data helps in getting the correct outputs when analyzing it. For the future MIS2502 scholars, data analytics is about how data is created (ER Model), how to retrieve information from data (MySQL), how to create a database, and how to analyze data (SAS).

    • For my perspective, the most important takeaway is that now I can read the data and understand what the data mean. Before take this class, maybe I can see data and guess its meaning, but I’m not sure if I can correct meaning for that data. However, now I can correctly read and understand the data, and also use that data to make some analysis or prediction. Also, now I can use SQL to create, record and extract the data and use SAS to analyze the data.

    • The biggest takeaway from this course is learning how important data is to a business and the multiple ways data can be used in a business. Data may be collected to provide an answer to a question, but can also answer other questions as well. Data can also be used to compare between other data where patterns and relationships can be found. I would tell a future MIS2502 scholar that this class covers the main ideas of data, how to use it (collect, interpret, analyze, etc.), and how to use SQL and SAS Enterprise Miner.

    • MIS 2502 provides insight to students on the evolution and importance of data. From my perspective, I found this class to be extremely interesting as to the different ways an individual can interpret data. I would explain to a future MIS 2502 scholar that this class entails collecting/gathering data initially, then using excel to output statistics about data, and finally using SAS to predict future trends and examine statistics in further detail.

    • From my perspective, the most important takeaway is understanding how data gets analysis and how data become meaningful through various programs. Before this course, I thought data gets meaningful once people input all data into the computer. After this course, I know that there are a lot of preparation to get useful meaningful information.
To future MIS 2502 scholars, I would encourage everyone to pay attention to these programs I have learned to use in class. They really make the data meaningful and give people what kind of work should be done to get data meaningful.

    • The main takeaway from this class is the importance that should be given to the management of data and information in today’s business world. The fact that we are exposed to hands on experience with some of the software that are currently used makes not only the class experience more enjoyable but also a more efficient learning. Also, I have been able to understand the importance of data, how to transform it and make sense of it in order to take the appropriate decisions.

    • No offense, but the most gigantic takeaway from the MIS 2502 course is the SAS system to operate so horribly & terribly. The MIS dept. should file a major lawsuit against this evil software company from NC due to freeze ups & shut downs. Sadly, this will not help the current & future MIS 2502 scholars to complete & understand the SAS assignments & functions. The MIS dept. must strongly consider other options to provide & use a modern software system on the Data Analytic program at TU Fox Business School to be taught & learned w/o issues.

    • I have learned from this course that numbers can tell a story. Data is not only numbers and characters but if interpreted correctly it becomes knowledge; know ledge that can be leveraged to your advantage. As Big Data becomes a greater part of business today I feel that this course has started me on the path to learning how to harness and utilize the massive amount of information present in the business world.

    • The most important takeaway from MIS 2502 is the ability to store and analyze data. Gaining experience with MySQL and SAS is the most useful part of this course. I look forward to using and building on these skills in my future career.

    • Similar to what other people have already said, the most important takeaway from this course from my perspective was the fact that data is all around us in many different ways. Moreover, the collection and analysis of this data can generate very meaningful insights that can be used to do various things, such as improve operations or answer business questions. If I had to explain this class to a future student, I would say that you learn about the importance of data in every day life and then you also use programs to design databases and analysis data.

    • The most important takeaway I got from this course is that data can always be useful it all depends on how it is analyzed and used. I also improved my skills in excel which will be very beneficial in the future. If I had to explain to a future MIS2502 scholar what this course was about I would tell them it is about learning how data is analyzed and managed through different applications.

    • The most important take away in my perspective from the class is that data analytics is a lot more than just taking data and putting into pictures, charts, and graphs. The pictures, charts, and graphs are the end result, in this class you will learn how data is joined, queried, and analyzed. You start to apply knowledge learned in data analytics to every day business situations and learn why things are done based on the data collected.

    • I think the most valuable takeaway from this class, for me, is to not be scared of a lot of data. Since I am not a MIS major or minor, and just took this class because I thought it would help me with marketing, I have learned that data can be molded to help answer valuable marketing and general business questions. SQL is a skill that is beneficial for marketing research job requirements, and the ability to analyze data is always a valuable trait to have.

    • From my perspective, the most important takeaway from this course is that ever-evolving data surrounds us in our everyday objectives. No matter what career path we choose, data will be involved, and many elements that go beyond simple thinking. Even if someone was in between jobs, if they go out and make a purchase or put in an online application, these data elements will help make decisions for them. Whether it be a job site spitting out the jobs someone should apply for, or if someone looks to make a purchase on Amazon and suggested similar items come up below. No matter what we go through in life, evolving data will affect certain things and have more of an impact on decisions than people will know, and I am glad that I do.

    • MIS2502 has taught me numerous things, but the most important is probably that we are constantly surrounded by data in everyday life without noticing its presence. There are endless ways to transform and modify data in order to further understand daily business operations as well as make wise operational and financial decisions. The extensive analysis of data comes with many benefits which I would have never understood if I had not taken this course. I would tell future MIS2502 scholars that this course is essential and should be taken by all Fox students in order to learn basic and fundamental data analytics skills. I would mention that data analysis is vital in every business and this course will give them further insight into how to be successful when transforming data into important information.

    • I think the most important takeaway from this course is the skills that enable me to turn raw, unorganized and useless data into valuable information using several tools including ERDPlus, SQL, Excel, and SAS. Since the digital age is coming, knowing these skills will become very important and can become a competitive advantage in the future job hunting. If a MIS 2502 scholar asks me about this course, I would say this course is about how to turn raw data into useful information using different IT tools.

    • The most important takeaway from this class to me is how important data really is in a business and the many way companies can analyze it to make relevant decisions. Learning how to use MySQL, SAS, and certain functions in Excel are also a great takeaway and skillset that is important to have in the business world. To a prospective scholar I would explain this course to be an overall understanding of how data is collected, stored, and turned into important information to utilize in the real world in an efficient manner.

To a prospective scholar I would explain this course to be an overall understanding of how data is collected, stored, and turned into important information to utilize in the real world in an efficient manner.

    • The most important takeaway from the course is that data is nothing if you cannot leverage it in a business setting. In today’s data-centric world, having access to data and gathering it is not the issue; the issue that companies are facing is that once they have that data they do not know how to utilize it. This course has taught me different ways to analyze the data with the pros and cons of each such as decision trees, clustering, visualization, and more. I think what sets an MIS student apart from a computer science student, is that when we receive the results from different data analysis forums, we are able to implement technology into the workforce that will satisfy solutions from a business perspective to maximize profit and get the most out of the investment.

    • The most important takeaway from this class in my perspective is how important data is for businesses. If a business can utilize data correctly they can grow their business much faster. If they do not utilize it correctly then they won’t grow or might even go it of business. The best way to explain this class is that data is everywhere and it’s important to know how to get the most out of it.

    • I would tell the scholar in this course you would be able to learn how data is effectively communicated, interpreted, analyzed, and transformed into information. You will be able to discuss different ways to use data and perform hands on data analysis using different software applications such as SQL and SAS. These applications are an important part of your future MIS career.

    • The most important takeaway for this course was being able to learn about data and how it is everywhere, how it all starts and it’s an importance in an organization.
I would tell the scholar in this course you would be able to learn how data is effectively communicated, interpreted, analyzed, and transformed into information. You will be able to discuss different ways to use data and perform hands on data analysis using different software applications such as SQL and SAS. These applications are an important part of your future MIS career.

    • What I’ll be taking away from this course is that analysis of normal business data can yield a lot of information. When explaining the course I would discuss how it has three parts to it. The first part is learning what databases are and MySQL. The second part is learning how to put all the data through transforms and also learning pivot tables. The third part is creating information from all the data using SAS.

    • The most important takeaway from this course is that there are core principals behind analyzing data. The software we used in the course, such as mySQL or SAS, uses these principals to aid users in analyzing data. In my opinion, a student has learned a great deal more from learning the principals behind analyzing data rather than how to use software, that is always changing. If I were to explain this class to a future student I would tell them to focus on how analysis works, rather than to solely focus on the software. It is great to know SQL syntax or how to navigate the menus in SAS, but ultimately the more important message is learning to understand the principals of data analytics.

    • The most important take away for me was learning ER modeling and MySQL workbench. I enjoyed learning the full story on how to create tables, and how data is stored in the tables. Another important takeaway was learning business ways to analyze the data that we learned how to store.

    • The most important thing that I’ve learned in this course is that data is much more important than we think. We use and analyze data every day to make important decisions and even basic decisions. Data is everywhere around us. I’d say that this class is about data and how it is stored, analyzed, and then used to make business decisions. This class taught me that data is very important and that you should always try to analyze it to make decisions and look for patterns.

    • There are many takeaways that I learned from this class, but the main takeaway that I learned is that data is everywhere and is represented in many ways that are used by people and companies to analyze. If I had to explain to a future MIS 2502 scholar, i would say it is about understanding and examining why data exists and how and why it is used. It is important to know before entering this class that its is not all about data visualization, it is about examining the data and knowing why it exists.

    • There are many aspects of this class that I found very beneficial if I were to continue a career in Data Analytics/MIS; however, the concept of analyzing data through a data cube is the most important. The reason why I feel it is the most important is because more than just MIS analysts use this type of analysis. Being able to collect large amounts of data and turn them into meaningful information can be used to benefit sales, supply chain, accounting, and even human Resources. In summation, being able to find meaning of large amounts of data and turn them into information to make decisions is what this course centers on.

    • From my perspective, the most important takeaway from this course is the that there are many ways to record, manage, and analyze the world’s data in order to make important business decisions. If I had to explain to a future student what this course is about, I would say it is about learning how to view and analyze data using different tools such as SQL, SAS, Enterprise Miner, and ERDplus. I Learned how to view data from a different perspective and use my knowledge to make important business decisions. I also learned various techniques to understand the data.

    • The most important take away I had was the way data impacts almost every aspect of our day to day live. Business, recreation, and education all use data in important and interesting ways. I would explain to future scholars that this course involves learning how data is collected and analyzed, and how the use of this data has such a big influence on our lives.

    • The most important thing I feel that I’ve learned from this class is how to use SAS to mine information from large sets of data. SAS Enterprise Miner gives you a lot of different options for how to analyze data, and I’ve found it very helpful.

I would tell someone coming into this class that it teaches you how to use various computer tools to analyze data in order to answer business questions and solve problems.
