From a digital content perspective, which model do you think will ultimately succeed?

As long as you are the market leader, you have the ability to maintain single platform model. If Apple’s market share of […]

Some of the challenges in incorporating “external” social data with existing data revolve around privacy and ethical concerns. Ethical issues come into play with examples such as insurance companies monitoring […]

For the in-class exercise, what was the pivot table question you made up (#18) and what was the answer?

The pivot table question was “What was the average age of those transported from Police/ Jail to the […]

This is interesting in that the relationship seems to identify the most densely populated states.

If you were in charge of data.gov, how would you encourage people to make better use of its data?

If I were in charge of Data.gov, I would consistently establish contests, awards and possible job opportunities […]

The lack of success of the Oakland A’s in recent years is not a direct reflection on the success of scientific management approach accross different settings. The clinical approach at IHC is based on evidence based medicine with efficiency and safety as the central themes. The use of metrics to assess success in the sporting [...]

In many health care organizations like mine, the KPI for perfomance is associated with units billed over a period of time (either monthly or quarterly). Measurment of units is specific, measurable and organized with time constraints. The ability to acheive goals in terms of units billed is present and attainable. Units of patient care is [...]

wulax5 commented on the blog post Weekly Discussion Question: Week 5 1 year, 7 months ago

In our PT practice, administration will intermittently assess reimbursement of billed units of care. The purpose of the assessment is to identify when reimbusement rates for each insurance company change. Periodically, these rates need to be renegotiated or the insurance company will be dropped. The units of care are billed to the patient’s unique…[Read more]

From working at temple, I realized a one former employee has my same name and was previously assigned the AccessNet ID. I was told that the ID may be available in the future if I wanted it. That would be a problem if you wanted to use this as a unique identifier.

wulax5 commented on the blog post Weekly Discussion Question: Week 4 1 year, 7 months ago

Using a randomly assigned TUID number is a good source for unique identifiers. The 9 digit number is sufficient to avoid the need for repeated numbers as enrollment grows. Using the AccessNet ID as an identifier is not suggested as there is potential for recycling of the AccessID names as students/ employees turnover. Often Access [...]

An example of a situation when a decision was made between access and accuracy was during a health screening study I performed for local high school student athletes in Philadelphia and the South Jersey area. During this screen for predictors of future shoulder and elbow injuries, we determined that we did not a sufficient number [...]

This also creates a major dilemma considering that the knowledge that is created is to be used when considering the quality of future collected data. It seems that using low accuracy data will exponentially deteriorate in decision making in the future.

wulax5 commented on the blog post Weekly Discussion Question: Week 2 1 year, 8 months ago

I believe that a merger of formal and informal information sharing is the most efficient. I find that having consistently organized meetings of peers in an unstructured setting allows for open transfer of information. I firmly believe that “pushed” knowledge sharing leads to shallow information transfer between peers. Consistency is crucial to…[Read more]

What role does data play in your job? Upon what types of data do you rely? As a physical therapist, documented data serves initially as overview of the patients current status at initial evaluation. Recorded data can be both subjective describing pain characteristics and functional deficits and objective in the form of strength and range [...]
