MIS 2101.001 – Adam Alalouf – Fall 2016

Adam Alalouf

Learn IT #1 Deadline Extended to 9/23

Due to issues that have now been resolved with uploading images to the community site, I am providing an extension of the deadline of Learn IT #1. You now have until 9/23 to complete the assignment and turn it in via the OwlBox upload.

Also, please note that you can make use of the Diamond Peer tutoring service to ask questions and troubleshoot issues you are having with any of the assignments.

Your Diamond Peer Instructor is Kasey Brown, and will be available to answer questions and help with exam prep.

Kasey’s office hours are:

Thursdays 8:15-9:30 AM in Alter 236a (breakout room)
Mondays 2:00-3:00 PM in Alter 236a (breakout room)

Kasey also wanted to provide students with the opportunity for “virtual office hours,” so she put together a little website where they can ask questions or post comments relating to class content:

Welcome

Don’t hesitate to reach out to Kasey with questions, but make sure that you provide complete information when you do. If you have a specific problem, you need to let her know what steps you took, what the desired outcome was, and what your actual outcome was. Do not email her (or anyone else for that matter) with a complaint like “I tried to complete the assignment and I couldn’t do it” because that doesn’t give us enough information to help you.

Thank you.

How to Submit Learn IT Homework Assignments

Important! Read these instructions carefully to make sure that you get credit for your Learn IT homework assignments!

  • Do not hand in paper copies. No printing is necessary, and printed copies will not be accepted.
  • Finalize your deliverable by saving it as a PDF.
  • To save a Word document as a PDF simply go to File > Save as Adobe PDF.
  • Documents not saved as PDF will lose credit.
  • Save your document using the following naming convention: Lastname_Firstname_Assignmentname.PDF
  • For example, my Learn IT #1 deliverable would be a file called Alalouf_Adam_LearnIT1.PDF
  • If you don’t name your file using this convention, you will lose points (sorry).
  • Submit your final document by emailing it to this special email address: MIS2101.q03p9aqqbyhnzf5x@u.box.com

By emailing your submission to the custom address noted above you are uploading directly to an OwlBOX cloud folder. If you need to make changes to your deliverable, you can upload it by emailing the updated file and it will overwrite the existing one.

Welcome to MIS 2101

Welcome to MIS 2101: Information Systems in Organizations.  We will not be using Blackboard for this class.  Instead, we’ll be using this site which is hosted by Community.MIS.Temple.Edu.  This site is built on WordPress, a world class open-source blogging tool.  As part of completing the assignments in MIS2101 you will gain some experience with WordPress and other technologies.

Unlike most intro courses, this course has no required textbook.  The traditional textbook has been replaced by a collection of readings that are freely available over the Internet.  Another way you will find this class very different than most classes you will take at any university is that this class is “activity based”.  With this type of class there is far less traditional lecture.  We will used the time that is freed up from lectures to complete in-class activities that help students develop a deeper and more genuine understanding of the material that is discussed during our class discussions.

On this site you will find all of the required course materials including the syllabus, links to the assigned readings, assignments and access to your grades for the course.  In addition, announcements will be made in class and on this site, so it is important that you check this site regularly.
