Week 3: Chapter 5 Blog

  • Question 1:  Most of you use a Social Networking site such as FaceBook.  Facebook now has a capability which links eBay auctions to Facebook pages.  (Search for “eBay Marketplace Facebook” to learn about the capability.)   How do you think eBay Marketplace on Facebook helps encourage E-Commerce?   What are some privacy issues that may concern you?
  • Question 2:  M-Commerce has increased significantly due to smart phones such as the iPhone.  Based on your reading and web research, discuss some of the limitations that discourage the growth of M-Commerce using smart phones.

Week 4: Chapter 7

  • Question 1:  In terms of eCommerce, discuss how intelligent agents may help attract and retain customers.
  • Question 2:  What are some advantages of using RFID technology?  Discuss some privacy issues associated with those advantages.

Chapter 9 Blog Instructions

Here are this week’s questions:

  • Question 1:  Read Brief Case “Hackers, Patches, and Reverse Engineering” in Chapter 9.  Answer and discuss the second question following the case.
  • Question 2:  In the Chapter 9 section “Why Outsourcing”, the book provides some reasons why a company should outsource.  Do some web research and discuss a specific situation in which a company should not outsource.  Explain why one or more of the reasons in the book don’t apply in this situation.

  • Question 1:  Read “Michael Dell, Founder and Chairman, Dell, Inc.” in this chapter.  Describe in your own words how Dell has automated their process to fulfill demand and decrease cost.  (You may have to do some web research to support your answer.)
  • Question 2:  Assume you are writing a letter to the head of technology of the Fox School of Business.  Describe one technology innovation you would want to see implemented and explain how it would benefit the staff, faculty, or students.

Building robots is no longer expensive . . .

But — Will we see a cyber crime wave associated with cheaper robot technology? 

Here’s an article in Electronics Weekly about a prediction by Noel Sharkey of the University of Scheffield and others.   http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Articles/2010/07/26/49134/robot-crime-wave-warning.htm  The article mentions a contest at this year’s International Aerial Robotics Competition where contestants are being challenged to remove a flash drive from a secure building using a robotic micro aircraft.  Also checkout this video of a robotic micro-helicopter controlled by an iPhone/iPod Touch.

This is the course site for MIS 2101 Section 5.  All course materials are located here.  Use the categories listed to find materials.  The syllabus is in the “Course Information” category.

Please check the announcements category several times a week for course updates.  I recommend setting up a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed of the announcements.  You can do that by clicking on the RSS icon located on the Announcements bar at the right of the blog.  Announcements can be automatically fed to your MyYahoo or Google home pages, a Microsoft Outlook folder, a mobile device, as well as any other RSS reader.  If you open the blog with Firefox and click on the RSS icon, feed setup is easy.
