This course is extremely useful and powerful. It has equipped me with some strong analytical thinking skills and although we use software to aid us in our decision making process it forces you to question data and figure out meaningful ways to utilize data and information and gather some real knowledge and insight. I found the course to be extremely interesting and I’m sure the skills gained in this class can be applied in any class or job. It forces you to pay close attention to detail and understand business problems or create optimization through the analysis of data.
To explain what this course was about to a future MIS 2502 scholar, I would say it teaches you how to use different types of software programs to analyze data and understand it in a more meaningful way than just raw data. This course enables you to think more critically about information that aids in making real world business decisions. The most important takeaway from this course is learning how important it is to analyze data in different ways to make it useful and learn programs that are used in the real world to help you in this process. My personal opinion about the course is that it is a very interesting class to begin with in the MIS degree program that allows you to “get your feet wet” with some very useful IT knowledge that will be applied to upper level courses and real world experience.
The most important takeaway from this course personally was the importance of how you structure data. I’ve learned that data is the foundation of a virtually unlimited amount of information and answers almost any question you may have. Learning about data is one of the most important topics students need to know in a progressively technological world!
I would explain to a future MIS2502 scholar that Data Analytics is the fundamental study of how businesses use data and how to interpret data into different business situations. Baoss.
We are in the age of Big Data. Data analysis is crucial for business to gain a competitive advantage in a globalizing economy. The most important take away from this course is how to use the software SQL and SAS as tools to perform data analysis and help the businesses decision-making process. I enjoyed the class! It was an interesting and valuable course. I gained confidence to apply the knowledge and skills learned from the class to a real business situation.
The most important takeaway from this class is the use of data analytics in real-world situations. One example of this is how some business use data architecture in order to gain information about one’s company and how to make it better. In many of my classes I have taken in my collegiate career, I learned about concepts and ideas that I would never experience in a real-life scenario except in certain situations.
If I were to explain to future MIS students what this class was about I would say: in this class you learn about the basics of data mining and how businesses use data and turn it interpretive information. You will learn how to use different programs such as MySQL and SAS that allow you to gain experience about the process in which companies extract and interpret its data.
If I have the opportunity to explain to the future MIS 2502 scholar, I would say that data analytic is one of the important parts in the business corporate world. This is because many different business perspectives came from the data analytic such as MySQL and SAS Enterprise Miner. With this said, I believe that this course have given me an opportunity to explore how data can be so important piece to business and technical environment. Therefore, I would recommend for those future scholars to take this course, because this course is very important to business working environment.
I would say that this course teaches you how to view, analyze, and use data to help organizations with their businesses. Using different softwares that allow you to extract data, analyze it, and design solutions, you will learn how to operate and manage database systems.
This class taught me how important is data in a business. How we can use the data to analyze old transactions, and have a better understanding of which store sold more for instance. In addition, this analysis leads to improve businesses because we can start targeting our best customers.
The class was very interesting especially in this “technology” world that we live in today. The more business understand, know how to interpret it, and know how much their data is worth, their productivity will increase significantly, leading to an increase in profit.
In my opinion the most important takeaway from this course is ability to understand the associations between data and importance of information in current business world. Also hand-on experience in using SQL or SAS gave a useful insight into the data analytics and showed how the data can be transformed into meaningful output. In general, this course teaches how to work with data, use the software and read the output. But in my opinion, this course is more about looking into the connections between data and figuring out how this associations are affecting us on daily basis.
In summation, I would explain to someone that this class introduces the value of data to business decisions. It not only explains what data is, and how it is obtained and analyzed, but more importantly, how it is used to make a decision. Different types of data analysis are performed in this class leading up to the use of SAS. You learn how to extract useful data and attribute what you learn from that data towards making decisions. While it is an introductory course, it gives you great exposure to much more complex avenues for data analysis and interpretations.
The most important thing I took away from this course was definitely learning the basics of SQL and SAS. Both are very useful tools that not many people can say they can operate or even heard of. If I had to tell a future student about the class I would tell them be ready to learn how to analyze data in different ways like never before. It will be a whole new experience.
What I learned most from taking this class was how to use SAS and SQL, as well as how to interpret and understand data that is presented. I thought it was important to use SAS and SQL because they taught us how to read and analyze information through software. If I were to describe this class to a future student, I would tell them it is all about analyzing data. If you are an analytical person like me, you will like this class a lot!
The most important take away from this course is the power of data analytic in helping business decision making.
If you had to explain to a future MIS2502 scholar what this course was about, I would say this course teach student the importance of data in business and other practices. How to build a data base. how to use different useful tool such as SQL, Pivot table and SAS to analyst data and make better decision in the real world.
I think that the most important takeaway form this course was the experience with SQL and SAS. I think it is very difficult to claim to be an expert with those programs but being able to go into a job interview and have familiarity with the programs is definitely an asset. I may not be able to do everything using the programs we learned about in class, but if I had to figure something out, I have resources to use and some knowledge about the programs. The course has taught me technical skills and helped me understand the concepts better.
The most important take away from this course was learning how to use the soft ware SQL and SAS. Both are important technical skills. From this course, I am not only learning how to use the software but also learning how to use data to solve diverse business problem. This course talked us how to group data, show data, explain data, and use data. Taking this course is not only valuable for further study, but also valuable for work.
When explaining this class to a future scholar I would describe the class as one that teaches you to organize and analyze an abundance of data using several different techniques and programs. From my perspective the most important things I took away would have to be the functions learned in Excel and the behind the scenes organization of data. The organization of data, including extracting data, taught me how to analyze the meaning to my findings.
My most important takeaway from the class was how to evaluate and understand the data that we produced. Yes, it is vital to understand how to calculate and discover the data, but if you do not know how to properly analyze the information then is essentially useless. Interpreting and analyzing data was easily the most interesting and in my opinion the most important part of the course. This is especially true for the business world and because the vast majority of us are business majors this will certainly come into play in the future
It is about understanding how technology is applied in business situations. It is very surprising how the simplest transaction or clickstreams can be translated into business prospective; how enterprises can analyze their target market and customers by understanding data and web interaction; how supermarkets can strategically arrange items to allure customers into buying more things or to better accommodate customers’ needs in a convenient store.
This course will introduce you to prepare how to create a model to describe your database, how to retrieve, alter or add information from your data base using SQL, to turn data into information by using a dimensional model and most important setting the best business strategy for an organization by analyzing transactions and data with SAS. As other classmates have stated the best part of this course is “getting your feet wet” with technology. The hands-on experience is what makes this course so interesting.
I think the takeaway from this course is all of the hands-on experience with the different programs and their functions.
I would explain the course to a future scholar as teaching you to analyze data through hands-on projects. Not only do you learn different techniques to analyze data but you get a background of how real companies use this information and you get a chance to do it yourself and try out the programs.
If I had to tell future students about this course, I would tell them that this class is very helpful, you actually learn stuff that you will use in your careers. I took a database class for Information science and technology major and it was nothing like this course. All I learned in that class was ERD, SQL and that was it. But this class, I learned a great deal, ERD, SQL, SAS, ETL, Pivot table and many other useful concepts. This class really teaches you about data analytics. I learned stuff that I know people use in daily work.
MIS 2502 is a great introductory course to take so that students can obtain knowledge from a more hands-on approach. As opposed to learning out of a textbook and studying definitions, we worked with different types of software on the computers in the classroom. Although we are all aware of the information that is a result of data analytics, I don’t think many of us have had the opportunity to work with the data to produce those results and actually understand it.
After taking MIS 2502 I learned how to collect and analyze data using various systems. Whether it was SQL,SAS, or Microsoft Excel I was able to learn how to retrieve data as well. I became proficient with these programs after this semester which will help me succeed in my MIS career. Any future scholar would benefit from this class because they will learn how data is stored, transformed, and retrieved. All of these techniques are fundamental tools that they need to know to understand the processes of data systems.
I would explain to future MIS2502 scholars that this course teaches you how to interpret and analyze multiple forms of data. The hands-on exercises for assignments utilizing programs and systems that professionals use in a daily setting offers a strong foundation, the knowledge and the ability to discuss confidently during job interviews. Programs such as Pivot Tables, SQL and SAS illustrate how data and technology is applied in business transactions. Additionally, students benefit from having an understanding of technology and how analyzing data is a vital component in organizations today. All of these experiences will set Temple students apart from our peers and that is why Temple MIS department is ranked top 20 in the nation.
The most important takeaway from this course was understanding how does the software such as MySQL and SAS work. In addition, I understand how to use the tools to analyze data from database. Learning SQL and SAS can help me success in the future career. If I had to tell a future scholar about MIS2502, I would tell that this course is about understanding how to group, analyze, and explain data using analytical software.
My major takeaway from this course was the importance in using technology to understand your business and more accurately predict sales. For hundreds of years owners have tried to understand their business based on their consumers and market segment, but data analytics allows owners to actually see what products consumers are purchasing together and what products are directly linked to each other. It shows what products are likely to be purchased based on demographic age and gender of a consumer. It also can help make decisions numerically rather than based on emotions. Data analytics can completely change the way many companies do business.
If I had to explain MIS 2502 to future scholars I would describe that this course teaches you how to analyze, interpret, and extract various forms of data by utilizing many different methods. I felt that the class exercises really helped me to understand what we were learning because I was able to practice what was being taught in class. Learning how to use SQL, SAS, and Pivot Tables in Excel really helped me to better understand this material. I also felt like having a knowledge of how to use these programs will be very beneficial to me in the future. I feel that I will be able to utilize what I have learned in this class and be able to apply it to what I will learn in future classes or in the real world.
I would say the biggest takeaway from this class is the introduction to the different type of software that is used in the professional industry. From Excel, SAS, and MySequel they are complex pieces of software (that don’t always work when you want them to) but they are very useful tools to help analyze data when it comes to whatever industry that you may be working for. I also learned that interpreting data and understanding what it means is completely different and much harder to do then to just collect the data from the customers or from the sales invoices.
If I had to explain what this course was about to a future MIS25 scholar, I would say that the main focus is on data and its various uses. First we looked at the general importance of data and converting it from its raw form into useful information. Then we looked at different ways we can view and analyze it using different methods like SAS and Miscosoft Excel. My biggest takeaway was a better understanding of the level of analysis that can be performed/achieved by studying and manipulating sums of data. This knowledge will come in handy when I enter the business world as an accountant (with MIS experience).
The most important takeaway I got from this course was that organizing, relating, and understanding data can be vital and have many applications. We often interact with systems that use information gathered from data or see the output-the end product-of information (for example shopping at the grocery mart I now notice where they place items and how they pair them-an output of information). This course expanded my understanding and outlook on tech. Through this class, and people and groups I have interacted with around Philadelphia, I realize how important tech, design, information, and entrepreneurship are and I am now planning to pursue a major in MIS to accompany my degree in entrepreneurship.
This class is about using data in practical ways.
The most prominent takeaway I will leave this class with is learning how to convert data into meaningful and usable information. Understanding how to use this platform has given me a deeper understanding on how corporations decide on making choices for the betterment of the company and its shareholders. This newly founded skill set has also allowed me to analyze data with a more structured mindset, giving me a skill that will benefit myself and my future employer. Even with the fast-paced and forever changing nature of MIS, I am confident that I have gained skills that will allow me to adapt quickly to changes in the future.
The most important take away from this class is that how to use MySQL . Because the MySQL database has become the world’s most popular open source database because of its high performance, high reliability and ease of use. Many of the world’s largest and fastest growing organizations including Facebook, Google, Adobe, and Zappos rely on MySQL to save time and money powering their high volume Web sites, business critical systems and packaged software. As a MIS major student we should have the knowledge about how to use this tool.
The most important takeaway for me during the semester was learning to use various programs to analyze data, especially in real-world situations as we did in SAS. Before this class I really had no technical expertise besides a little bit of experience with Excel. After leaving this class I will be able to extract, transform, load, analyze, and interpret data, and that is an asset when you are searching for a job in a tough economy.
If I had to explain to a future MIS scholar what this course was about I would say that it gives you experience and understanding in how businesses use data analytics. I would also say you gain an understanding for the underlying principles behind programs like SQL, Excel, and SAS.
“What was the most important takeaway (from your perspective) from this course. If you had to explain to a future MIS2502 scholar what this course was about, what would you say?”
The most take away experience is getting a better idea and insite on how information is grouped together, analyzed, tracked and very useful for business purposes in order to figure out what consumers often purchase rather than others. Also, on the internal side of things if you actually were the one monitoring the data analytics, how to read the data cube, data mart, and data warehouse and how they play a part with each other to gather all pertinent information needed. This course is very useful for tracking data purposes and imputing data in SQL format and exporting data via excel format. However, it all depends on how large the amount of data you are trying to track. There are so many methods you can utilize to alter data and visualize the data in a much simpler format.
If I had to explain this course to a future MIS 2502 scholar, I would say that the course prepares you for the business world with hands on experience using software to manipulate and analyze data. Taking this course has allowed me to develop and fortify my technical skills and sharpen my ability to analyze data. This will allow me to make better and business decisions which will prove to be very valuable as I enter in the business world.
Although each topic has an entire field of study beneath it that gets into extreme specifics and detailed creation of databases, usage of spreadsheets and Excel software, and the formation/analysis of data cubes, the larger theme of the course “what can you do with data?” was the most valuable takeaway for me.
As an MIS minor, I don’t intend to be creating or working hands-on with data analysis software. I also don’t have any immediate plans to build the next data visualization platform. What I can do now after this course, however, is use data to ask and answer questions that could save myself (and my company) countless man hours and dollars wasted on following wrong trends or assuming trends are significant when in fact they are not. Knowing how to ask the world of questions that can be answered through proper analysis is the most valuable take-home I found from this course.
The most important aspect of this class to me was gaining real hands-on experience with different types of databases and systems used to store, retrieve, and analyze data. Getting a basic understanding of how systems like SQL and SAS work, and being introduced to the language involved is an important stepping stone into the world of MIS. This course is about seeing a general overview of how concepts like data mining, and creating pivot tables to analyze data, really work. The course does not go too in depth but rather dabbles in a variety of programs, from SAS to Excel. It has been probably the most interesting class I have taken yet at Temple, as well as the most practical and is a great tool for anyone looking to pursue or learn more about the field of MIS.
The most important takeaway from this course is using and analyzing relative data to answering and solving business questions. For future MIS2502 scholars this course was about knowing how to collect all relative data and to only use the data that’s important.
If I had to explain this course to a future MIS 2502 student, I would say that the course teaches you how much data is at your disposal, and how useful it can be in making business decisions. Knowing how to analyze, interpret, and use data to help a business is an extremely valuable skill that will benefit any student in their future career.
If I had to tell a future MIS2502 scholar what this course was about, I would tell them that it teaches you how to distinguish the meaning of raw information into a valuable data for businesses. This course will develop your thinking process so that you can analyze data more accurately and learn the different software that helps you to draw conclusions. I felt like this course was very beneficial, and a course that you can apply to different industries, and it will not be a regretted class.
