Setting up your SAS OnDemand Account

Here are the instructions for setting up your SAS OnDemand account. We will need this starting on March 22. However, you should set this up immediately(!) to avoid problems; sometimes there are delays in approving your student license for the software.

If your account isn’t set up, you can’t complete the assignments!!

SAS OnDemand requires that you have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. The labs have this, but your home PC may not.

Mac users: Java should come pre-installed with OSX. Check here for more information.

So first, get the right version of the Java environment here (you can also get it from the Java web site by going through the setup instructions, but this is easier).

Then follow the instructions step-by-step to create your account. It’s not difficult, but there are a lot of steps and you must follow them carefully.

Quick(er) Guide to MySQL Workbench

Here is a “short” version of the Quick Guide to MySQL Workbench. It is basically just the key steps to set up a connection, but it is specifically tuned for the Netbook rooms.

Quick Guide to MySQL Workbench

This document explains:

  1. How to set up MySQL Workbench on your own computer.
  2. Set up a connection to our class server (on a lab computer or at home).

Remember, you have a username and password for the lab computers and the MySQL server. You can get those usernames and passwords by looking in the gradebook.

Make sure you look through it by Tuesday, January 31.

Course Syllabus

You can get the course syllabus here.

I have also posted the link to the Harvard Business Publishing site where you can purchase the case. You’ll find it under “Course links” on the right.

See you in class on Tuesday!
