Details regarding the class project will be discussed on the first day of class and periodically throughout the semester. Students will be expected to work in teams of two (or, on rare occasion, three.) Student teams will be assigned at random.
The project will be broken down into pieces, with class time allotted to work on the pieces. Students should expect to work on their project outside of class as well. As the course progresses, each deliverable of the project will build on the previous deliverable.
Your final project grade will be determined by an end-of-semester assessment of the project’s over-all quality. If student teams make a continuous effort on the project throughout the semester, then a perfect (or near perfect) grade on the project should be achievable.
In most circumstances, each team-member will receive the same grade. However, if the instructor determines that there was a serious inequity in the contributions of team members, a point penalty may be applied to an individual student’s grade. The point penalty may be between 5 and 30 points off the student’s final project grade.
Throughout the semester, the instructor will periodically send email surveys to the students with questions about the team’s performance. Students are expected to respond to these surveys. A lack of response will be interpreted as a failure to contribute to the project.
