During my freshman year here at Temple I went into the city with a couple of friends and my camera and decided to explore. We walked all over the city, just taking everything in while trying not to get terribly lost! I took a lot of pictures that day and decided to put them into a slideshow format for everyone to view. So the slideshow below is my first day in the City of Brotherly Love. =]
Ever since I was little I have been making trips to Kempton, PA with my family to visit my grandparents. 45 minutes away from our house in Reading, we made the trip at least twice a month. For my sister and me, these trips were like mini-vacations because we got to see our awesome grandparents while also visiting the Kempton Train!
Fast forward to 2011 - The Kempton train has become a part of the Stanislaw family. Every (and I mean EVERY) year we go on the Santa Train Ride for Christmas to ride the train and see Santa. As I grew older and less interested in Santa, my neices and nephews began to take the lead in santa-happiness.
When it’s not Christmas, we make a point to try to get the WHOLE family together and rent out the caboose and go for a ride. It is a great way to see everyone in the family and be able to reconnect with the train. The slideshow below is some of my pictures over the years of the Kempton Train. The last picture is of my family and me on the caboose last summer.
Enjoy!
For the Quest we were challenged with the task of adding 5 or more ‘widgets’ to our blogs. For me this was a daunting task as I realized how easy it is to get a little widget-happy. At one point I think I may have had close to 10 widgets before I came to my senses and got rid of them. Currently I am satisfied with the amount and quality of the widgets in my blog and think that they are a great addition to the overall atmosphere.
My first widget is the ‘pages’ widget which I think it a really great widget for anyone’s blog because it really adds depth to the site. I made two pages; one is my ‘about me’ and the other has my information on Flickr and a few of the pictures I have taken. I personally believe having an ‘about me’ section is a must for any blogger so that the readers can get a sense of who the writer is. The Flickr page was just something fun for me to add… I am very interested in photography and I am always linking my Flickr site to my other social media outlets.
My second widget is my Tag cloud. I must admit the initial reason I added the tag cloud is because it looks pretty neat once you have a few posts on the site. But secondly the tag cloud comes in handy for the reader to get a sense of what most of the posts are about.
The third widget I added is the archives drop-down. The archives drop down widget really flowed nicely with the tag cloud and I thought it would be a good addition to the organization of my site.
Next I added a ‘quote of the day’ widget. I have this widget on my other blog that I have for my job and I think it’s just something fun to add to the site. It is powered by thinkexist.com and generates a new quote each day.
The last widget I added was a link widget in which I linked everyone in the classes blogs. I thought this would give good dimension to the site so people would understand ‘why’ I am blogging and to be able to view my classmate’s blogs as well.
