To promote my website as well as increase traffic activity I plan to start making better use of my Twitter and Tumblr accounts and linking them to my world press blogs. I have also made a twitter account for my group Hello Kitty. I think these two social media websites will help in promoting the things I blog about because Twitter and Tumblr are where most of my friends are and including some celebrities. The first place to start while trying to promote or advertise is through friends and family. I hope to attract the attention of my friends so that they can see not only what I blog about but all the things social media websites have to offer. I was unaware of Tumblr until a fellow classmate introduced it to me. I want more of my followers to read my post and blogs rather than just my classmates and teacher because we’re all doing the same assignments so it can be repetitive. I will know if this strategy has worked if my number of followers increases, page views, comments and Retweets. I especially need this type of promotion because I don’t have much activity nor do I tweet a lot, but my followers do notice the few times I have something to say.

I also plan to start following my fellow classmates on their social media websites and commenting more on their blogs. I believe by following them and reading their post I will learn all types of new things and have different perspectives. I can react and comment to the things other bloggers say or feel. I hope to gain new followers and get feedback from other bloggers. I will know if this has worked by the commentary I leave on other blogs and see if this gets other bloggers to look me up. Social media websites are built for networking purposes. Therefore if you do not interact with other people you will not have any type of traffic activity. I plan to put these methods into play

I choose Sony as my well named brand being that I absolutely love the products the company has to offer. I currently have a Sony Vaio that has served its purpose over the course of my four years of being in college. While visiting the corporate website I noticed right off the back in the upper right hand corner there were links to Faceebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Foursquare. Going over to each of the websites linked from the main page, Sony has an absolute great presence promoting movies and new products they are planning to launch. There was a link on Sony’s Facebook page that says Social Media and from there you can link back to the original website. I also saw that many people Retweet and respond to the things said by Sony on Twitter. I think Sony hopes to achieve more customers through these social media sites as well as get their new products out to people around the world who may not visit their official site.

As a small brand I chose Dots Fashion LLC, which is a women’s clothing company not well known to many people because it’s inexpensive and mainly because it’s only for women. I was previously employed by Dots as a sales associate so I know the company pretty well. Visiting the corporate website I saw no link to any social media websites but being as though I worked for the company I remembered receiving coupon emails which had links to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. I searched through my emails and found the links. To my surprise many people are fans of the Facebook page, where they leave all types of comments and feedback on the service provided and what they like about the company. I noticed many people saying Dots should have online shopping. Dots also has their own blog spot, I was really amazed at the advertisement through social media that the company is doing. I think they hope to gain more customers and feedback on what to do next with the clothing line. The only down fall is that Dots needs to make links from the corporate website because there are customers who do not enlist in the email service therefore they are not aware of the Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube links for the company.

I would measure both Sony and Dot’s initiative to use Facebook and Twitter by looking at the amount of people who visit their social sites and how many times people click on the links to the official websites.

I am member of The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Temple Section where I currently hold the position of Treasurer. NCNW is an organization devoted to serving African American families and women in surrounding neighborhoods and communities. I believe NCNW is a decentralized organization because there are many different chapters and sections within universities across America. Being the only NCNW at Temple makes the organization centralized because we come up with our own ideas and ways to serve the surrounding Philadelphia community. But because it is not the only one in the Philadelphia region the organization as a whole is mostly decentralized with all Chapters and Sections focusing on the same rules, mission and goals.

I believe Cavalier’s discussion on “fellow believers” is similar to the role of ideology in the decentralized organization. Being in a “community where others share your same interest entices people and makes them feel as though they belong in that environment or around those individuals.

After reading the 3S suggestions I think they all make sense but the one that made the most sense was the first and last S: Search and Support. I am currently practicing “Search” with my mother on a product she sells. Although she sells products her intentions is to gather close friends and family people that believe in her already and get them to understand the products. The products are sold so that each individual can make residual money. My mother like Cavalier has taught me to not to sell the product but to become a product of your product and get my friends involved so that can share with other people who believe in them, which is similar to their community. Also people need support systems to keep motivating them.

Overall I agree with Cavalier’s definition of community. I must say that as a blog it was quite lengthy but it was informative and gave me a new way to look and approach situations. I feel as though more people should read cavalier’s work mostly sells people, they could learn a thing or two.

Launching a Facebook-only news portal seems like a good idea. Not sure how viable it would be for all news stations but for some it will be a great opportunity. Major advantages would be by using facebook reporters have access to over 500 million people, therefore catching the attention of many people who on the regular may not pay attention to important information. Facebook has become like a go to source for many people in today’s society all across the world. Although a slight disadvantage to this issue would be not everyone has a facebook and it’s mainly older people who actually pay attention to what’s going on around them. But I must say as the world is evolving and technology as well, sooner or later the only source to information will probably be via the internet. Overall I just think it’s a good gesture being as though reporters and journalists can reach out to all kinds of people, and everyone can have access to their work. It would be even easier than having to search through Google to find a recent article. This is just another way for people to be heard and I think in bringing the world together.

If I were to make an online news organization, I’m not too sure how it would look. I would definitely have a “LIKE BUTTON” for all articles or information, just to see how many people actually read the content provided on my page. This would let my reporters and I know if we’re doing a good job and satisfying the public.

Ethically this is wrong because in some ways it is violating the rights of innocent citizens no matter if it’s here in America or across the world in another country. Creating these fake online personas is kind of taking things to the extreme.  I know that government officials are trying to crack down on major situations such as terrorism but some things are unpredictable and unstoppable. When violating someone’s privacy I do not think it matters if the government or corporate does it. But people in general should be careful of what they upload on to sites such as Facebook especially if you work in a corporate business; you are representing your company inside and outside of work. My social networking sites are all private and my settings for everything are blocked. I thought if the government feels someone is acting suspicious that they have the right to approach that individual. I think this is another sneaky way of handling things but everyone seems to be taken advantage of social networks for all types of purposes.

I’m not quite sure if social media should play a role in emergency response but if it does it should be used as a secondary resource. When I say secondary I mean after we use our primary resources such as telephone, text, or even e-mail if necessary. If I were in an  emergency situation and it’s a situation where phone systems being down, the internet which is driven by cable should come into play, therefore I would then use it as a way to reach out. Some may disagree and say social media should have a bigger role during emergency response. With the younger generation this may seem like the way to go being as though almost everyone has internet access and are on either facebook or twitter. In the case of the two girls trapped in the water drain I feel as though they could have called 911 and then used facebook as well to reach out to friends or even family members. All the new technology with mobile devices makes it easier to track where people are. There are so many new apps on the phone systems such as GPS, therefore it is almost easy to find out where anyone is at any second. I still think people should watch the news but in today’s society the internet is faster and efficient, and people tend to pay more attention to their facebook than they do to their own lives, or work.

I most definitely agree that facebook should be banned within the workplace. From a business owner perspective you would not want your employers to be on a social networking site all day. Facebook does not pertain to most jobs and it makes people less productive. If its not work related, then it does not need to be present. Most workplaces have internet access and that itself should be enough. The internet is a big distraction and Facebook only creates problems.

I currently work for a company that bans Facebook, and  I have no problem working for other companies that ban the website as well. With facebook comes the issues of inappropiate commentary, pictures, etc. All these can cause a person to lose his or her job. Therefore companies should stick to the main focus and production of work. Facebook is like downtown when you are in the comfort of your home and privacy where you can be carefree to do as you  want, the workplace is on someone else’s time.

My name is AQuanna Hansley, my major is Human Resource Management with a minor in Management Information Systems.

I came to temple because it is known to be a very diverse school, also has one of the best Business schools in the country, and Philly is only 4 hours away from my home in Connecticut. i.e. not to close but not too far from home.

I hope to learn a great deal about blogging and what social media has to offer. I do not use my twitter account that often so hopefully I will while applying what I learn academically!
