Until the internet can be supervised, which i don’t recommend or agree with, then events and actions like this will always take place. Propaganda has been and always will be a part of society. Something like this is definitely not affecting me in any way, shape or form. The information i retain and receive does not come from a facebook status. Also if anyone is concerned with there personal safety and actively monitors they personal online safety then this shouldn’t be an issue with them either. The government is going to do what they feel necessary to protect our nation and in the process may do something unethical. As much of a scheme this may seem to be, in reality it may not be. If you do not know a person then don’t allow them to become your friend in your online social network. Otherwise the government could use sites like these to coordinate Intel of a person trying to hurt a large number of people. Also if you are doing anything wrong then you shouldn’t have anything to hide. It definitely shouldn’t be on the internet if it is that personal, so why people would make such a big deal out of this is beyond me.

Who ya gonna call in the event of an emergency situation? Use social media to broadcast your situation? I don’t think so. With the all of the evolutionary steps and integrations  social media has made in our new technological age, I do not believe  that emergency response is one of those. In the time of need making a Facebook status isn’t going to alert authorizes any faster then you dialing 3 numbers.  In the event of a natural disaster, will the internet even be available? Will the social media cry for help even be heard? Also will it be a valid cry for help? There are to many questions that need answers before social media can become an emergency response tool. In rare instances if you are being held captive and your captor isn’t smart enough to take away your phone, or doesn’t notice that you are using it, then maybe it could work. But in that case will your post even be taken seriously? How long will it take before some decides to react and make the right phone call?

Social media and the situations described in the article are still just forms of communication, not emergency response. However, in the near future will someone have developed a legitimate social media emergency response.  Could this be seen as a new facet to the social media explosion? It has the right potential and maybe some day some will develop social media as an emergency response tool, but until then it remains a great tool for communication.

I agree with Craig Donato’s post about the importance of new Social Commerce.  It is important for marketers to start looking into different ways to reach their loyal customers and make new loyal customers. Because loyal customers have a bigger influence on their products then star ratings at the bottom of an online purchase. If you have several friends who have recently purchased a product and believe it to be a very good item, then online the product only got 4 out of 5 stars. While another product got 5 out of 5 stars from a large number of people you do not know, obviously you are going to purchase the product that your friends have recommended. Unless your product is so good that no one else can compete with it, these social, or friend reviews of your product become very important to your business. The internet has changed a lot of ways business is done in the world and it continues to influence it everyday. This is no exception. Finding ways to market a product and get large number of people on board with it, and use the relatively cheap internet to market is a great way to save money while pushing a product.

The banning of Facebook in the work place, quite the touchy subject now-a-days in the modern age.  Social Networking websites are a recently new phenomenon which has caught on like wildfire, with every single person with an internet connection feeling the need to get on and test it out. In the “Social World” this is an excellent tool for all different types of scenarios and situations: Meeting new people, rekindling old friendships, planning birthday parties, etc… Anything related to having a “Social Life” can be accomplished  on this website. That being said, if you work for a company that does any type of marketing or promotions, this website is useful with its different features and the feeling of being connected to everything.  On the other hand most people don’t work for these types of companies or those departments within a company. So Facebook merely becomes a distraction for the average person. There will always be exceptions to everything, however most people do not fit into that category. Facebook has many different features and things to do, killing time can be effortless on it. This is why Facebook should be banned in the workplace. If you are paying someone’s salary you do not want them to be wasting time on a website when there is work to be done. There are other ways to reward hard working employees, and allowing them access to a social networking site is definitely not one of them.

I have made some changes to blog. After getting my trouble shooting and computer related problems out of the way I was able to work on my blog. I put 5 widgets on the side of the page. Check it out, Maybe some of these websites will be useful to YOU!

My name is Chris Pittman. I am a student here at temple university in the Fox School of Business. My major is Management Information Systems. I am a student in this major because I find computers and the way we interact and use them to be very interesting. Technology is a great tool and is here to stay. It is crucial to learn the inside and outside of them because they are a part of everyday life. I hope to get a better understanding of how to use social media better and improve my skills on the internet, and just find out ways to make my skills on the computer better.

I currently work at Boathouse Sports as a graphic designer and printer technician. I have been here for several years and find the work that i do enjoyable.
