Overview

The goal of MIS 4596 course is to help you integrate management information systems and broader business curriculum. By the end of the course, you should be able to understand the overall role of MIS in organization. This includes:

  • Learning how to leverage and think about enterprise level information technology
  • Applying systems thinking to enterprise IT
  • Justifying and prioritizing project portfolios at the enterprise level
  • Proposing, comparing and evaluating specific projects
  • Understanding the role of the MIS professionals and how IT organizations are structured
  • Experiencing an entrepreneurial team project from start to finish

The course is based on three key learning components:

  • Co-create: Generate knowledge in collaboration with the instructor and other students. Go beyond just reading or discussion which are valuable but focus only on reaction. The most valuable employees are the ones who can create new knowledge. Don’t just participate, co-create! Click here for more.
  • Learnathon: Get maximum value from each class session which include a mix of face to face and online sessions that integrate lectures, activities, breakouts, discussion, guest experts, and completion of a concrete learning goal. Don’t just listen to lectures, practice, stretch, and get things done! View the class schedule for more.
  • Meetup: Collaborate, coordinate, and manage your team members and projects. Learning is at heart a social activity, most people learn best when they engage with others, which is the meetup concept. Don’t let team projects bog you down, accelerate collaboration with meetup tools! View the team and project management section for more.
