Work Experience – Walmart Logistics

I have worked at Walmart Distribution Center 7030 for the past 3 years. I am currently a systems operator.

The most important skill I have learned in the course of my employment has been the ability to sift through an enormous amount of information; pick out what is actually important; and put it back together in a way that management can use easily. Most of these tasks are accomplished using Excel. I thought I was proficient using Excel when I was hired, but I was barely a beginner. I am constantly asked to create tools and macros to solve business problems; I had to teach myself these skills on the job.

The following are a few examples of the projects I have worked on and some of the tools I have created.
I created an overtime calculation tool for our HR department. This tool reduced the time it took our payroll clerk to calculate OT for our facility by 6 hours. I worked on a project that removed the “selection sections” from our dry warehouse for expanded food stores and our low volume super centers, which reduced the number of pallets orderfilled by a ratio of 1 pallet per 1700 cases picked. I developed a “Receiving Projection Report” tool, for our central receiving office, which showed the total number of cases and items coming into the warehouse, and broke it down by type and commodity. I created a performance tracking tool for the entire warehouse, this tool broke down every job in the warehouse for each shift. this tool shows historical data and compares it with present data, projections and a breakdown of “cases per man hour,” which is our KPI.

Wal-Mart distribution, I am currently a Systems Operator at Wal-Mart’s distribution center #7030. I am also a “T3” which is a trainer in the DC.
