Intern (Alumni Relations)
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is an international law firm and the most profitable lobbying firm in the United States. I worked out of the Philadelphia office, which is one of the smaller locations of the firm. The Philadelphia office specializes in Intellectual Property, Complex Commercial Litigation, and Class Action trials. I worked as a part of the Alumni Relations team which is in the marketing department of Akin Gump. My role was to support the alumni relations team. I edited newsletters, co-managed the firm’s LinkedIn alumni page and primarily managed the alumni database. It was my responsibility to find information on where alumni of the firm were currently working. One project I was in charge of was presenting a summary of my findings to the other members of the Alumni Relations team. I provided information on what industries alumni of the firm were working in and where they were working. This was important information for the team, because it allowed them to have more specialized messages to send to alumni in hopes to maintain a strong relationship that would be mutually beneficial. The work I did in Microsoft Excel at Akin Gump was very closely related to the Excel skills I learned in my Data Analytics class. Using Excel tools such as pivot tables helped me present my findings concisely. As a Management Information Systems and Marketing double major, this internship was a great example of how these two fields can be related in the real world.
