Do you know that the Fox MIS department offers a course called Co-op Experience in MIS (MIS 3581)? This course was available on April 2010 but not a lot of students knew about it. It is a business elective course. This course encourages students to get an internship in MIS or a business related job. It helps students to collaborate by applying the classroom material and working experience at the work place. At the end of the semester, students need to present a presentation of what they have learned under the supervision of a faculty member.
The good thing about this course is that it forces you to think critically about the business world and working environment. Every week you have to answer some discussion questions on the community website. The discussion questions are mostly about the culture, people, and responsibilities of your current role and how do you feel about it? What is the most important? How can you handle some awkward situations?
This course brings many benefits for students because it motivates them into looking for an internship, being active from beginning, and learning the intricacies of the workplace. Also, it helps students to learn life skills by experience.
If you want or interested in registering for this course, first you have to fill out an independent form, then present this form to your professor and ask for signature. At the end, you will submit this form to Mr. Joe Allegra, Senior Program Specialist and he will register this course for you.
