MIS 2501 Enterprise IT Architecture

Enterprise IT Architecture provided me skills in outfitting and customizing IT Architecture for maximum functionality  in the enterprise. We worked with Microsoft Azure to set up a network that included a Domain Controller, DNS Server, Network Monitor, and several workstations. We allowed users from specific business units to have access to different files based on their login credentials. The class also developed my communication and writing skills through flash research papers. These papers outlined prospective technical solutions from both a cost and usability perspective for business stakeholders in a short form that they can understand. Those skills are vital to communication in the business word for a technical person.

MIS 2502 Data Analytics

Data Analytics teaches students to work with data and model it in ways that are useful to organizations. We worked with R and MySQL to gather skills in data mining, clustering, segmentation, association rule mining, relational data modeling with ERDs, dimensional data modeling in excel, and classification using decision trees. These skills will allow students to help companies with the increasing need to analyze and understand data.

MIS 3501 Data-Centric Application Development

Data-Centric Application Development is the class that develops coding skills for MIS majors. The class briefly covers HTML and CSS, and then transitions into PHP and PDO to create applications that can connect to business databases in valuable, user friendly way. The skills developed in this class are vital to students interested in web development, and enables them to be successful in understanding the development of corporate websites.

MIS 3502 Application Integration and Evaluation

Application Integration and Evaluation broadens the skills learned in Data-Centric Application Development to include JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, and AJAX. The class introduces different CDNs that help developers to code websites more efficiently. Websites created in this class as part of a project for a real stakeholder include responsive web design, bootstrapping, and database interfaces. Students with these skills can be valuable to organizations in web development.

MIS 3506 Digital Solutions Studio

Digital Solutions Studio is a business analysis class that allows students to elicit requirements from members of an organization through an interview series, and create a fully functional prototype that solves their business problem. The final deliverable of the class includes, data masters, use cases, and scenarios which give students an idea of what is expected of projects in the corporate world. The class also requires a presentation of the prototype to the business stakeholders with different end user personas. The class increases skills in working with stakeholders and eliciting needs they have for their project. These skills will aide students in communicating effectively to clients and creating valuable solutions for their business.

MIS 3535 Lead Global Digital Projects

Lead Global Digital Projects is a project management class that gives students the skills to create documents that are necessary to lead IT projects. The class is designed to work with the project in Digital Solutions Studio (mentioned above) to manage the budget, scope, and quality of the team’s deliverables. However, my project management team volunteered to work with a team from the Engineering department are Temple to assist them with their graduation project. We draft documents such as risk registers, work breakdown structures, and communication plans to ensure the delivery of a quality project that meets all objectives on time and under budget. The skills gathered in this class will help students to deliver valuable projects in prospective organizations.
