Communication Internship at General Electric Corp. Japan

Communication Internship at General Electric Corp. Japan

What I learned

I was mainly in charge of editing Quarterly Executive Summary for GE Japan and GE’s HQ. This included searching any published articles in the Internet, newspapers, and magazines. Also, I developed the website, its design, and digital and social media contents. In this role, I created the GE reports articles by using Tumblr, which describes the GE’s current business and other GE related works. One of the articles I made was elected as the top 10 reviewed articles of the year. In addition, I joined the group that supported the Rio and Tokyo Olympics’ promotion activities. GE is the TOP (The Olympic Partner) and it tries to boost their brand recognition. So, I made some documents and website pages to inform people of that.

These experiences let me gain the real workplace skills. For example, while I was developing the website, I learned that how the website looks is really important, and what kind of words should be used in the articles so that SE can find them and display as the primary results. Also, by helping the TOP promotional marketing, I gained the skills of how to make use of the IT for the marketing strategies.

Background of the company

General Electric is the multinational conglomerate corporation. It traditionally manufactures industrial products such as airplane engines, medical healthcare equipment, power-generating plants and so on. Recently, almost at the time I was working for the company, it declares that it’s gonna transform itself to the digital industrial company. This means that it is going to focus more on the IT stuff. In order to achieve this, now it is developing the PAAS called Predix.

Review of my role

This role is really meaningful for me because I could gain the experience that I’ve never had. This is because I’ve never thought the internal corporate communication as that much important factor. Also, it was the valuable experience that I could learn how to make the executive summary and actually made the one with the supervision.
Overall, the work experience in my role was really great.
