Project Management at AIG Technologies KK

Project Management Internship at AIG Technologies KK Japan

What I learned

In the internship, I was working for one of the service companies of AIG Japan Holdings, AIG Technologies KK (Kabushiki Kaisha) (AIG TKK), with the position of project manager in IT Security Risk and Compliance. During the term of the internship, I was in charge of two projects related to the company infrastructure, servers and databases. Also, I assisted the ongoing project to integrate the new security system over the AIG Japan. Two infra related projects were the initiation and planning phase while the other security system project was in execution phase. Through this internship, I learned the difficulties of project management: communication and knowledge in technology and business. In terms of communication, because the project was about infrastructure and can impact all the business units of AIG, I had to communicate lots of stakeholders not only the technologies teams but also the business operation teams. The other lesson was the importance of the knowledge in technology and business. As the IT project manager, I was required to know and explain to technology people what the project is about in details while to business units how the project can impact their business.

Background of the company

AIG as American International Group is one of the biggest insurance companies in the world. AIG TKK is the service company of AIG Japan Holdings, mainly dealing with company infrastructures.

Review of my role

Being a project manager in AIG TKK was a wonderful experience in my career as I could acquire the real skill of project management and the deep knowledge in company infrastructure (servers and databases), technologies (infra scanning systems, OS structures, several programming languages), and compliance (information laws such as SOX).
