What is Generative AI?
In this activity, I completed a LinkedIn Learning course titled What is Generative AI? This course provided an in-depth understanding of generative AI and its implications across various industries, which align with my specific interests. It covered the historical development of generative AI and explored its current applications in text, music, images, and more. The course also examined how generative AI is transforming creativity and work by enabling the automatic generation of content, streamlining repetitive tasks, and improving efficiency overall.
As part of this learning experience, I gained valuable insights into the unique role of generative AI compared to other types of AI. Unlike discriminative AI, which identifies and classifies existing content, generative AI creates entirely new content, driving innovation in fields like design, marketing, and media. The course also covered how generative AI models, such as those developed by OpenAI, Google, and Meta, serve as powerful tools for a diverse range of users, from business leaders to non-technical individuals.
Through practical examples, I learned how generative AI has grown exponentially, with significant breakthroughs like DALL-E and ChatGPT showcasing coherent and realistic outputs. The course also introduced me to platforms such as Google Colab, as well as tools like Midjourney and Lensa, which enable users to create customized content regardless of their technical expertise. I had the opportunity to explore how these models function and how they can be used for creative purposes, such as generating fantasy landscapes or personalized avatars.
I expect the insights I gained from this course to advance both my academic and career goals. With a greater understanding of generative AI, I am better prepared to explore its applications in fields that align with my interests, such as technology, design, and media. Academically, I plan to integrate this knowledge into my research and coursework in management information systems. Professionally, I look forward to applying generative AI tools in real-world projects, whether in design, content creation, or strategic roles within tech-focused organizations.
