Summer Intership
I had an opportunity to intern full time for 12 weeks at IT Services during this past summer.
About IT Services:
IT services is a mid-sized information technology firm located in Philadelphia. The company was founded in 2010 by two young entrepreneurs from Africa. IT services provides information technology support and services to small businesses in the surrounding area of South West Philadelphia. Currently the company has 10 employees. The company is specialized in Help desk services, Networking security, repairs computers and sales. The company allows small businesses to focus in their main business process by providing them with strong IT solutions.
Summary of My Internship:
During my internship at IT Services I was assisting the help desk team. I was responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, or software. I responded to queries, runs diagnostic programs, isolates problem, determines and implements solution. My primary responsibility included:
- Provide technical assistance and support for incoming queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.
- Respond to queries either in person or over the phone.
- Write training manuals and train computers users.
- Maintain daily performance of computer systems.
- Respond to email messages for customers seeking help.
- Ask questions to determine nature of problem.
- Walk customer through problem-solving process.
- Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.
- Clean up computers.
- Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems.
- Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other systems.
- Install computer peripherals for users.
- Follow up with customers to ensure issue has been resolved.
- Gain feedback from customers about computer usage.
- Run reports to determine malfunctions that continue to occur.
I have learned valuables technical skills during my internship at IT Services. Now I am capable to install and configure a complete computer system for a small company. I know more about LAN and WAN system. I am comfortable assisting companies with their Networking security issues. Interning at IT services was a great deal for me because it allowed me to put in motion some of the knowledge I have acquired at school. Now with a real work experience, I am fully prepared for a career in IT.
