Quality Assurance/IT Intern

This summer, I interned at Spencer’s and Spirit of Halloween, a retail company located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ specializing in tees, jewelry, and gifts. I worked as a Quality Assurance Intern in the IT department, and that role allowed me to work on a variety of IT functions such as testing functionality of the websites, researching new technology we could implement to streamline work for the future, testing the back end/fulfillment functionality, and creating bug observations for issues found on the websites. I was specifically assigned to a project in testing the functionality of a widget that will be implemented on the Spencer’s and Spirit of Halloween websites. In this project I tested the functionality on the websites and the SMS messages that the widget would automatically send out. I went through a regression of various test cases and found multiple bugs that I would fill out bug observations for in the future. Another project I was assigned to was testing the production website before it was launched. This testing took place one morning with multiple parties including people across different departments to see the results of the test as it was happening. For this test cycle, I was tasked with testing iOS functionality and carried that out through the morning. Through this internship, I learned a lot about the core of corporate structure and how IT/MIS fits in that system. We learn a lot about corporate structure through many classes in Fox, but I found that being in that environment was a much different experience than in the classroom. I also learned a lot about quality assurance and how that plays a role in IT. I did not know much about quality assurance going into this internship, but, after completing 10 weeks with Spencer’s and Spirit of Halloween, I found that it could be an avenue I would like to pursue in the future. I really enjoyed testing the website and seeing how much goes into operating a retail store through the websites, and, overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this internship.
