Extra Credit Assignment MIS 2502

This project offered students an additional opportunity to enhance their practical skills in data analysis. The objective was to select a relevant dataset from online sources and apply Decision Tree analysis to forecast an outcome variable based on the dataset’s context. I conducted the analysis by importing a CSV file containing my chosen dataset into Jupyter Notebook, where I visualized it using Decision Tree algorithms. Through this, I was able to conduct an in-depth analysis to develop predictions of the outcome variable along with its associated probabilities. I concluded by exploring the relationships between the outcome variable and its features, and what insights can be gained from analyzing the data.

The dataset that I chose focused on how likely it is for someone to have a heart attack, with class 0 = less chance of getting a heart attack and class 1 = more chance of getting a heart attack. There were many features/variables considered to make these predictions, like the patient’s age, number of major blood vessels, maximum heart rate, chest pain severity, whether or not they have exercise-induced angina, and more. Understanding the insights found from the analytical predictions helped in refining treatment strategies and establishing risk factors based on the variables listed above for patients with heart disease or risk of developing it.
