Research Analyst Intern

SCOPE is a two-part company that deal with Commercial Real Estate and Investment/Debt Consulting. As a relatively medium sized company in the industry, it has many locations. I had the opportunity to work in the Philadelphia offices with a focus on the Student Housing aspects. With the help of alumni through the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, I landed the role of Research Analyst Intern. My internship dates went through the Spring and Summer of 2024, a total of 6 months.

Since the start, I’ve been working a lot with databases and CRM’s. Using tools such as RealNexCRM, I was required to search through the database and fill in all the contacts/ companies/ properties with missing contact information such as emails and phone numbers. This is super useful for the company as it provides an easier and better experience for the colleagues using the CRM. It results in faster communications with properties we are interested in purchasing. My way of getting these emails and phone numbers also come from extra databasing with public records using sites such as CoStar, Nexis, and Reonomy. Using these sites require me to search up the property addresses, and if that doesn’t conclude to the information I need, I search up company names as well as property true owners. This makes it a complicated job as there are many records that may be similar but not quite the one.

Eventually I had to team up with a group of interns and associates as we took on the challenge to target Multi-Family properties that were in or approaching Debt Maturity. We successfully worked together to cold call and resolutely closed a few deals. My role on the team was not too different from the role I had for the company as I researched property information for the others in my team.

Working at SCOPE has made me realize a lot about what I like to do as well as the practicality of what I learned in college. To see that I have been using skills learned from my MIS classes, such as CRMs and databasing, gives me a warm feeling. I’ve also learned a lot in the commercial real estate business from learning people’s 9-5, to improving my communication skills, and to just to be around a professional environment which helped me mature quickly as well as soaking in good habits and skills. I believe that working here has benefitted my work ethic as well as my vision on the corporate world and I can’t wait to see what else I can learn.
