Project Manager Intern
I had the opportunity to do a hybrid internship with Penn Medicine as a Project Manager under the Information Systems department. Although most of my days were done remotely, I was able to be on site to collect data or assist in new integrations into the Penn Medicine system. During my internship, I learned that COVID-19 caused many hospitals to file for bankruptcy, so Penn Medicine bought some of those hospitals. The Project Management team is responsible for hospital integrations by managing specific teams like Population Health or Rehab. The teams collect and manage data assigned through Orion. My task consisted of gathering data into an Excel workbook to make financial estimates on new technology needed to make the integrated hospitals up to Penn Medicine standard. I also assisted in making schedules for specialist to evaluate technology on specific sites. Lastly, I attended many meetings some of which I was responsible for recording notes and reporting them back to my supervisor. As an MIS major this internship was key to my professional growth as it exposed me to how information systems plays a key role in healthcare operations while showing me how crucial it is for a organization to have upgraded and secure data/technology as Penn Medicine is a leader in its department.
