I am a girl who is always fond of learning and exploring new things by myself. Taking learning algebra as an example, I will never be satisfied when a problem is only solved in one way. I like to erase the previous auxiliary line and try to think of other ways to solve it. Not only in academic study, my innovative mind has also inspired me to solve problems in life. In 2010, I invented a soapbox with a movable water-filtering board, which helps the soap dry itself more easily. It has passed the examination of the State Intellectual Property Office of P.R. China, and they awarded me a ‘National Practical New Model Patent Certificate’.
The exploring experience is quite enjoyable for me. However, since high school, I found there are fewer chances for me to explore new things because learning turned to be more exam-oriented. It is boring when the study is most filled with solving exam problems every day. I want to be provided with more chances to further explore things which really interest me. Therefore, I have decided to continue my study in an American university because it will better meet my needs. It is the place where self-learning and exploring spirit is widely encouraged, as introduced by my relatives who are now living in the US.
Furthermore, I am an active participant in extracurricular activities. I want to do something for people who need help. After the Wenchuan Earthquake took place, my classmates and I collected RMB4500 for the Red Cross. Also, I have been involved in the weekend volunteer work for children and old people in the welfare institutes. I am willing to take part in similar activities in the United States if there is a chance. Besides, I will contribute my strengths in music and sports to the US community. I am good at playing piano and the traditional Chinese instrument Guzhen. I do well in running, and once I won the second prize in the 1500 meter running competitions held off campus.
