My Career Interests and Aspirations
Business has always been a part of my life. My Grandfather and Father owned a restaurant each. I excelled on the sales floor at my current retail job and quickly became a sales lead in charge of an entire department. I have just always been a business savvy person. However, I have been in both of these industries for so long, and I realize what decisions are made and what goes on behind the scenes. I wanted to have more of an effect on a business than running a sales floor.
I quickly became acquainted with the accounting aspect of a business and what drives the decision-making behind the scenes. I became enamored with every aspect of accounting in a major business and love to see how well a business is truly doing by their numbers. A specific store for a company may seem pact and very busy every day. However, when you sit down and look at their financials and see how much liability they have or how much cash flow they stick back into the business, which is where the real story is told.
I want to graduate from Temple with my Accounting degree and immediately pursue my CPA certification. I feel strongly about working in public accounting. I believe that I will enjoy it, but even if I do not, the knowledge and experience I will gain will be invaluable. As long as I start my career in public accounting I can make the decision from there out if I truly feel strongly about it or if I would like to do it on a smaller level. Although I believe I will stick with public accounting as soon as my career is underway, if not I will have greater knowledge that will make me a stronger asset for an accounting employer.
