Embark Scholar Intern

  1. Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)
    1.  I performed tax, audit, and advisory services through a rotational program throughout the summer. I reviewed and reconciled invoices against bank statements and authorization lists for completeness and accuracy. I also researched company service lines, business resource groups, values, and policies of the company. Finally, I conducted weekly client calls and team meetings to report progress.
  2. Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished)
    1. I reviewed the tax forms and bank statements for a technology firm to confirm accuracy and completeness. I also worked closely with the data analytics service group that utilized different data analytics tools to streamline different tax processes for clients.
  3. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses)
    1. From the internship, I learned that many accounting processes, specifically relating to tax and audits, are becoming more automated and streamlined through technological advancements. A lot of these tools and software I have utilized in my MIS classes including MySQL and Tableau. I am most interested in working with the tax ignition group. This innovative group utilizes digital transformation, data analytics, and systems integration to create efficient systems for tax accounting processes.
  4. Once approved, the description is automatically displayed in a post on your e-portfolio.
