AIS Mentorship Program
Spring 2021
Reflection
Having been in the mentorship program in Fall 2020, I was hoping to gain additional information about AIS and the MIS program. The online environment had continued to worry me as I felt like I was missing the opportunity to network with other AIS members. By participating in the AIS Mentorship Program a second semester in a row, it has expanded my network to included many AIS members and MIS classmates. This Spring, I was paired with Francesca Rowe and I felt her and I were a really good fit. We had similar personalities and she understand and addressed all my questions and concerns right away. She helped me come up with a detailed calendar spreadsheet to keep track of future AIS events so I could keep reach my pro points goal this semester. The AIS Mentorship Program has continued to expand my knowledge and skills and I am grateful for this opportunity.
Fall 2020
Reflection
I started the fall 2020 semester as a newly declared MIS major. I was pretty worried that not physically being on campus would make it hard for me to network with other students in the major. After hearing about the AIS Mentorship Program, I decided to apply in hopes of learning more information about MIS and available job opportunities in the field. I was paired with Allison Stauffer and after my first meeting I felt a great sense of relief. She answered all the questions I had about classes and helped clear up any uncertainty I had about the MIS program. Allison also gave me advice on who I can network with to continue to build connections within the AIS community. Overall, I thought the program was structured very well, giving me opportunities to reformat my resume, apply to internships, and connect with other MIS students. It was an enriching experience.
