National Ovarian Cancer Coalition – Together in Teal
This fall, I volunteered for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition\\\\\\\’s annual walk/run to raise awareness and provide funding in support of the ovarian cancer community with my organization, Alpha Sigma Rho, whose philanthropy is NOCC (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition). Every year, the event is is hosted in Philadelphia along with Together in Teal to walk towards a future where no one is to lose their life due to ovarian cancer. This year, my organization volunteered from 7am – 1pm to set up various tents including stocking the food/water/refreshments for runners, games for kids, photobooth for ovarian cancer survivors, and more. In addition, once the run/walk started, I was placed in one of the routes of the course and directed runners along, ensuring they navigated smoothly to the finish line. When participants were tired or restless, I was responsible for arranging transportation back to the main area, coordinating with those who had vehicles to assist.
Through conversations with survivors and families affected by ovarian cancer, I gained a profound appreciation for the impact of showing up and supporting such a meaningful cause. Coordinating efforts across a large event with over 1,468 participants taught me the importance of teamwork and meticulous organization. Witnessing the community’s effort was incredibly inspiring, and together, we helped raise $277,996 to advance NOCC’s mission.
