IT Intern
- Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks) – During my summer internship, I worked at Alexion as an IT Intern where I was assigned an individual project that I had to complete during my 10 weeks. Since every IT intern got their own individual project, I was in charge of everything for my project so I scheduled meetings with stakeholders to gain insight and understand what my final deliverable needed to look like. In addition to this project, I attended numerous meetings and events where I was exposed to other parts of the company like Research & Development, Finance, Process Development, IT Risk, and Cybersecurity.
- Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished) – The project I was assigned to was referred to as “Mission Micro-Learning” where I was tasked with researching Alexion’s current IT training landscape as well as the concept of Micro-Learning and how Alexion can improve training effectiveness. Again, I met with stakeholders to understand Alexion’s current training pain points and how I could improve training effectiveness. My deliverables included a User Requirements Specification document, a scorecard to compare Micro-Learning platforms, a Proof of Concept training inside of MindTickle (the Micro-Learning platform of choice) on the topic of Online Threats, and a final presentation within MindTickle to show how I understood and utilized the platform’s capabilities.
- What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses) – My role in my project was the Business Analyst so I gained more insight into the BA role in a corporate setting. Although I took the skills I learned in MIS3506 about being a BA and applied them to my internship role, I also strengthened these skills throughout my summer because I was able to see how transferable they are in the real world.
