Treaty Underwriter
I will be joining General Reinsurance Corporation (Gen Re), a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., as a Property/Casualty Treaty Underwriter Trainee in the North America Treaty unit, based in Stamford, Connecticut. Gen Re is a global reinsurance company with over 2,000 employees worldwide and offices across all major reinsurance markets, providing reinsurance solutions to the Property/Casualty and Life/Health insurance industries.
In this role, I will begin developing a strong foundation as a reinsurance professional by learning how individual Property/Casualty risks are evaluated and managed within a portfolio. My responsibilities will include supporting underwriting work such as risk assessment, reviewing coverage needs, assisting with reinsurance treaty pricing, and gaining exposure to contracts, claims, reinsurance accounting, insurance operations, and catastrophe modeling. I will also participate in rotational assignments across different departments.
This position directly relates to my second major in Risk Management and Insurance, as it allows me to apply coursework in property and casualty insurance, risk analytics, and insurance operations.
