Philabundance
Six months after I arrived Philadelphia, I worked as a volunteer for Philabundance in South Philly up till now. Every Friday afternoon, we will unload a full-filled truck and distribute fresh vegetables, fruits, food and drinks to those people who need them most. My responsibilities included:
- Worked with a team of 10-15 volunteers to distribute food and water weekly to low-income families
- Manage inventory of the remaining goods as well as the number of people waiting and adjusted the per capita supplies as necessary to create efficiency during food drives
During those volunteer days, it not only made me became knowledgeable of local poverty and local nutritional issues by chatting with the recipients, but also gave me an insight into what goes into a organization keeping track of inventory, and how it go from truck to getting them into the hands of the customers.
